Carlile House

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Tonight I’m posting a photo of the Carlile House in Ponsonby. It is now empty and very run down, the grounds are quite overgrown. This is a very large building and the photo only shows part in the front of this rambling old place.
There is not much information available about this building but from what I can find out it was once an orphanage and was involved in a large fire. About 43 children died in the fire and is believed that a nurse haunts the house. The neighbours believe that it is haunted as they often hear children playing and laughing and also a groaning noise. Carlile House is not classified as a heritage site but I thought it to be very interesting and well worth visiting and walking around the site, on a dull day there is a foreboding feeling when you are on the property.

Hello Ralph,
I'm getting the impression that all houses are derelict in N.Z!
You have captured the details of this house well: its fine lines and lovely archicture. Only bordered windows tell a tale of neglect. (It would be snapped up for renovation, in England!)
The colours and light are good.
I cannot really explain why but, I would like to see a little more space round the building, especially skyward. It feels to be trying to push its roof out of the frame.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Ralph,
Great shot of this old historic building, as with Bev I think a bit more space around would benefit, beautiful colour and detail, I think this would also work well in B&W. TFS

Very nice architecture and superb detail. I love the colors and lighting. A very sad story to go with it. Very nicely framed by the trees. TFS
Hi Ralph,
Nicely composed and shot. Good details, nice warm lighting. A B&W could work well, or an HDR on a moody day to tell more the story of the building.
Regards,
Phil
Hello Ralph,
I like the old stones and on this composition, your image processing gives them a beautiful patina.
Good work
