Another photo taken on Saturday when much of Auckland was engulfed fog.

This time at the Westhaven Marina.

Westhaven Marina is the largest yacht marina in Auckland, and also the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The marina has nearly two thousand berths and swing moorings, and tends to be continually booked. Auckland, known as 'City of Sails', is generally known for its maritime passions.

It is owned by Auckland City Council, which bought it from Ports of Auckland in 2004 for NZ$46 million. Council is proposing major works around the Marina for NZ$ 23 million up to 2011. This may include improved parks around the Auckland Harbour Bridge area, better footpaths and cycleways along Westhaven Drive and a Marine Village (with cafes and marine-related shops).

In 2008, the marina received its second-time-running international 'Blue Flag award' for its water quality, environmental management and safety standards. It is one of 640 marinas worldwide (and the only marina in New Zealand) to have received the award. [From Wikipedia]

Very nice perspective and wonderful mood!! I love fog and it's such a great time to get out with our cameras. A beautiful picture and scene. TFS

Moody and evocative shot - you've taken full advantage of the conditions. The central position works well but I can't help but wonder how this would look if taken from closer to the right hand side. I'm sure you would have checked this out so ignore my wonderings.

Nice Ralph - very ethereal effect. Nicely composed.. I'm wondering if a slight crop of sky from the top would give a good look to the image - more balanced?
Anyway - nice to see Auckland like this for a change. It's usually bog standard rain or sun when I visit!

Hi Ralph,
Great moody shot, the harbour is so still and the reflection is brilliant, the stillness adds to the atmosphere. TFS

Hello Ralph,

Although the fog doesn't thrill us with bright colours, it does create a very, interesting, moody shot. This has good perspective as it recedes into the distance, with a hint of mystery as the images fade.
The reflections add a lot to the shot.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ralph,
Another nice moody shot. Good composition with the two lines of boats leading us in. No blotches in this one either! I like the central composition rather than off to one side as well! Possibly I would play with curves to both lighten the image slightly and add contrast.
Regards,
Phil

Hi Ralph,
Seems we've both uploaded shots from Westhaven today :). Awesome scene. Nice balanced composition, the reflections are great too. Can easily see why they call our city the 'City Of Sails'. Well taken.

TFS,
Scott.

There are moments, on calm, foggy days, when a reflection in water ceased to be a reflection and suddenly resembles an infinite chasm below. This shot really captures that - it has the appearance that the boats are suspended in air. Awesome capture, great POV and composition.

Hi Ralph,

I really like the shot of the boats all in a row going of into the distance their reflections showing very nicely in the water. The pov is very good dof is excellent sharp details well done.

Regards
Jon

Hi Ralph,
A wonderful modish picture. The mist is a important part in this picture, creating a mysterious view. The reflections are wonderful sharply captured, fine contrast showing the details of the boats in the foreground. Great view on Auckland Marina.
