A bit of fun with creating a costume and exploring some simple scene-setting ideas.

Diana came over one chilly Sunday to try a shoot we'd been emailing back and forth about for some time: to see if we could recreate some kind of Classical Goddess look.

Costume design was spur-of-the-moment. Two sheets of fabric, one tied in a halter-style, the other pinned on as a rudimentary skirt; some curtain trim as a belt/tie, some simple brooches and a bracelet as props, and some fake plastic golden ivy as a head-garment. I set some tealight candles around her to add mood.

Light was umbrella-diffused studio strobes with bounced speedlites to the right and mounted overhead for hair separation.

Very much "more of the same" in terms of style and setting I know, but still a fun way to spend an afternoon!

PP applied - levels, crop, frame, neatimage, selective sharpening.

Really nice ambiance and lovely pose!
Excellent quality of the image: sharpness, colours, perspective!

Lili

Beautiful picture of her. I like the lighting arrangement, making the subject standout so clearly. Sothy

great work sexy modle good work

Gorgeous in every way Rew! What grabs me here is the skin tones, just perfect, noiseless. smooth as it can be. I just love the folds and curves in the white dress! Just amazing!

Hi Rew,

Very creative idea and setup, with fantastic execution. The lighting is perfect and your model looks very natural in this setting. Beautiful work.

Best regards,
Werner

Nice result from your experiment Rew. Great skin colors, nice detail and smoothness. The one thing that bothers me a little is the table on the right .. on her left. Seems a little out of place behind her, especially 'cause we can't really see the candle thingy that's on the table.
Nice creativity with the fabric and the curtain tie-backs though. Great job.
Trudy

You've come a long way with your portrait shots Rew, lighting is so good, so is the setup, only bit I would have changed is the location of the coffee table on right, candle holder seems to be attached to her shoulder, a little bit of separation may have been better imo. Excellent work, thanks

truly godesslike. Wonderful pose she looks almost innocent. Wonderfully done both of you. TFS

Nice shot Rew, good POV and pose, the black BG and candles are really effective. Striking clarity as always, the lighting looks perfect. Excellent work.

TFS,
Scott.

Beautiful, Rew!
Perfect exposure, outstanding light and shadow contrast, great arrangement with the candles and a lovely (as always) model. Great skin tones, nice soft expression, comfortable with the camera. This one's fabulous! Superb job! Many thanks and warmest wishes,
Shelly

It is always a pleasure to look at your photos. Thanks for taking so much time, effort, creativeness and for having such a beautiful model posing here. Everything is in the perfect place; no too many; just enough. She sure looks like a Goddess. TFS

The material on her dress looks so pretty and elegant under this lighting. I like everything about this, the pose, candles, black bg...a very beautiful portrait that I'm sure she loved. TFS

A lovely portrait. The dark background and plained coloured dress really brings out the features of the model.

Thats very nice Rew
Some good change of mood in ur work :)

I like the pose and the placement of candles.
In my opinion her hair (from her right side and top) are not differentiated from the black backdrop, a very minor thing though :)

Hi Rew
I like the Goddess look you have created. Of course it helps to have the right model. I am a little troubled by her pose as it looks awkward with her leg out an an angle. The exposure on her skin and dress are spot on.
Cheers

Nice work Rew, well created and finished result is great. Is Diana related to the singer Annie Crummer ? She looks like she could be her sister

Salut Rew,

beautiful composition and color, very sweet as the model certainly ...
bravo

Hi Rew

Good studio shot here, with a nice pose (1/2 the battle won), wonderful repetition of the lit candles, & a superb diffused light. Perfect sharpness & framing. Tfs!

You certainly achieved the grecian goddess look, the placement of the candles is delightful. Notice the light in her eyes. Nice work Rew.

Great job with lighting as usual
Interesting costume
like the dark BG
Find the tables in BG are distracting, would be better without them.

Hi Rew...nice shot...wonderful tones and light...I agree...fun way to spend the afternoon....

Roger

hi rew,
I think that the costume looks really cool, considering what you used. I like her expression and the pose (although it's a bit too "girl next door", maybe her hands/arms should be somewhere else..?) but the golden ivy is a bit too much for me, I think her costume would have been enough
apart from that, I think that if you had made the background darker we would have seen only the lights and not the stools, which are indeed not very Greek =)
great sharpness by the way.

I like the soft diffused lights, the candles on the floor and the dark background. The skin tones are terrific. Compo wise I would prefer the removal of all things on the model's left back. Leave that area all black and just leave the lights to float in front and the right side back of the model.

Hello Rew
Nice experimental shot. I like the setup and the arrangement and specially the lighting which is giving very natural result. One thing I want to add here is to Iron her costume. there I can see some fold lines/marks. excellent work. Thumbs up

Regards
Usaf

Nice one Rew - great clarity and lighting. Nice use of props although to be honest I find the metal frame behind her shoulders a bit distracting. Maybe just the candles on the floor would be enough?
Anyway - your portrait stuff is great as usual and you capture her very nicely.

Cheers
David

boa tarde Rew
wonderful portrait...with a very "natural" look from Diana. she is superb here and make a wonderful warm portrait.
My regards
teresat

Hi Rew,
you have managed to even make a kitschy scenery good looking!
Reminds me somehow of Diane - godess of hunting.
Technically I think your light management is excellent with lots of details in all kind of natural and electric light areas. Even her hair is visible against the dark BG. Good one. TFS

Hi Rew, Another very fine portrait with good clarity and skin tones. The setting is striking and professional. The black and white which dominates has strong impact. TFS. Murray.
