[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This an old bridge that crosses the Opanuku Stream in a bush reserve behind my house. The steel frames are rusted and the hand rails and ballistrades are rotten, its not that safe to cross. It is due for replacement as the Waitakere Council develops the Opanuku Stream Walkway and Cycleway which when finished will cover approx 16k's through mainly native bush. This part of the walkway is in and area known as Henderson Valley.

PP work in Photoshop Elements 7 utilising Topaz Adjust and Topaz Detail plugins

Thanks for looking.

Hmmm ... ok, I'm not going to be so glowing about this one but it's a great opportunity to discuss.

To start: I wouldn't know how to capture an image like this.

But - looking at this shot, it seems so busy, so cluttered with foliage, that I figure something should be different.

Maybe it's the Topaz post work that has levelled all the dynamics out and actually created too much sameness through the shot ... or maybe a subject like this needs to be treated in a more macro-style way, perhaps in a close-studied detail of the bridge with other elements kept in blurred distance: or a much tighter crop?

Just my thoughts on it ... sorry ... but thank you for sharing, too, it has really got me thinking about this kind of subject!

Hi Ralph,
the topaz filter gives the old bridge more character and works well with this kind of subject
cheers
