[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I take photographs when I can't play golf - that's why most are sunrises ans sunsets, but today I managed to combine them both.

Operating the camera and hitting a golf ball at the same time is not easy. I put the camera on a 2sec delay, counted O-N-E-T-H-O-U-S-A-N-D, T-W-O-T-H-O-U-S-A-N-D and then whack - I thought it would be easy but a few hundred shots later I hadn't even got the club in the frame. I dropped the shutter speed down to 1/125sec and eventually got this one.

When I did the sums I understood why I missed it so often (the shot not the ball!)
My swing speed is about 80MPH ie 36 metres/sec, this produces and initial ball speed at impact of 110mph ( 49m/sec)- so you don't have much chance of getting it right at 1/500sec after guessing a 2sec delay.

Technical stuff.
The club was a 56 degree sand wedge which produced a launch angle of 39 degrees. This is fairly low indicating that the hands were forward at impact and the club was de-lofted. It wasn't a particularly good strike as there is no real divot after the ball.
FYI Tiger can reach swing speeds of 125MPH but the average tour pro is about 100mph

As I only managed to capture the shot twice the other one is in the WS - taken at 1/30 sec

Too much maths for my poor brain to take in - but I love the end result :)

Awesome Jack!!! I don't see how you captured your own shot. I wouldn't think about trying it. I had enough trouble capturing that kid's shot. You're amazing. Great info on the photo.

Hey, if this were truly a daily life photo, there'd be a divot. :)lol Just kidding Jack; I know all New Zelanders are great golfers.

Thanks for posting this; I like it! I have a divot photo that I'll post in the morning.

Dennis

Hi Jack,

We share a common interest, golf and photography. I appreciate the differculty in achieving this shot, the sort of thing I would do, the challange is there for me to rise to. Well done
