The Meyer Lemon Tree

Can you smell the perfume? Nothing smells better than lemon blossoms.

This is my addition to the Thanks-giving theme

This is our Meyer Lemon, which we’ve had in our garden for 10 years now. By far, the Meyer Lemon is the most popular of all the citrus we grow. For 10 months of the year we usually have lemons on it always ready to be picked. At some times like now, there can be ripe fruit, green fruit and also the flowers. In fact, the tree seems to flower often during the year, such that at times both fruit and flowers can be present nearly all year long.

The Meyer Lemon Tree is very hardy and is the best lemon tree in New Zealand. It isn’t really a real lemon but it is a cross between a lemon, a type of orange and a mandarin. It has less acidity than a true lemon and is not as bitter. It is sweeter too.

Every time we have moved we have always planted a Lemon tree. We could never be without a lemon tree in our garden – and it is always a Meyer Lemon.

Yes, I am always very thankful for our Lemon tree.

Hello Janice,

A lovely capture of the lemon blossom, its buds and leaves; they are beatifully sharp against the oof b/g.
Perhaps a slight crop from the top would place the focal flowers in a stronger position within the frame.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

hi janice
beautiful shot great colours and detail, love the blurred lemon in the b/g.
regards
jimmy

Hi Janice

Let's see. Lemon Merangue Pie, Lemonade, Lemon slices, Fish with lemon juice. Yep. I'd be thankful too! Good use of a shallow dof here, with superb sharpness on the blossums. Tfs! Have a great weekend!

Hello Janice!

Janice I liked that I had to look for the lemon in this photo, Your DOF works well showing enough clarity to understand what the blossom is for.
I noticed in your notes that this is a hybrid so explains the orange color of the lemon .. shows the importance of notes.

Hello Janice,an excellent close up of these beautiful flowers;I have never seen the flowers of the lemon tree before.
I like the 'portrait' presentation with the blurred leaves and fruit in the bg.
Good work.
Interesting note.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Janice, I'm very envious that you are able to grow lemons! I would love that!
I know the fragrance of the Meyer Lemon blossoms .. I once had one that I grew in a pot. Beautiful. This shot is really great too ... great focus and sharpness on the flowers and unopened buds, and nice shallow DOF.
Great job. Enjoy your spring.
Trudy

Beautiful shot Jannie! The quality here is amazing! How nice you are able to grow lemons. We are a bit TOO north for that, we freeze here, but down in the valley, about 200 miles south, they grow there pretty well. This is top notch work!

We had fish and chips at Mission Bay on Thursday night and took lemon to put on the fish.

Lovely pin sharp detail, your composition is great.

Hello Janice,

Janice
Très belle photo aux superbes couleurs. Ces fleurs sont très belles et j'aime le fruit flouté en arrière plan.

Hi Janice,
Superb composition, great how you managed to have the little flower perfect sharp and show the beauty of the detail. The DOF creates a special and attractive image with fine pastel colours. A unique kind of nature photography. Great post my dear!

Hello Janice,
Very good organization in this picture with special colors and good presentation for the eye. Wonderful collected moment with bepflanzten fruit Type very beautiful colors those, which show cold weather and the warmth class. Good organization. Very good light and clarity.
Radix complement.

Thanks for clarifying the variety of your lemon tree Janice , first i thought that what i was seeing in the BG looked more like an orange ,surely not as yellow as the one i use in my kitchen , hi hi , but now i know what it is and thanks to your informative note, well i could make use of it here, Gee i wonder why i have never seen a Meyer lemon at the market , i'm taking note of this !
Nicely presented , sharp and i like the flower that grows here on this tree it's kind of cute frankly, i understand why you could not be without one in your garden ,
Thanks for the note Janice,
Carol
