[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is 2 photos side by side of a small tomato dropping into a glass of 'powerade'.
One was a fraction too soon and the other very slightly late.

Set-up
Darkened room with a small LED shining on the glass from the left and a flash on the right aimed at a black BG.
The sound of the 'plop' was loud enough to trigger the flash but I was scared the microphone would get wet so as I dropped the tomato I hit it against a crystal glass - (Photographer's Note - the glass must contain a generous portion of 12yr old single malt)

ISO100, F11, 5sec, Flash 1/7000th sec,
I also had a 2sec delay to aim the tomato, I was surprised how many times I missed and hit the edge of the glass - not sure why, must have been the darkness

Interesting contrast on multiple levels! You executed the shot well as far as the setup and lighting. Overall very nice. TFS

This is a nice concept, but I find it poorly handled. The bottom of the glass are odd. The tomatoes on the left is badly cut out...you've got that pale form all around it. Althought it was a good effort. That type of shot, demands a lot more work. 5 seconds is just too long for not much. some reflective cut out, glued to the back of the shot, should help bring this shot more alive. you also need two small box...place on each side...to give it good contour.

Wow! This one is like an invisible juggler! Well done again Jack and lovely notes to back up this masterpiece! Well done!

cheers,

Dilshan

Hello Jack

Need to remove the rest of the image from around that mater on the left. Looks like the mater on the left was cut from another image. Still a nice concept.

Jimmy

Hi Jack,
Another awesome experiment. I was trying a similar experiment a couple of months ago by dropping fruit into a fish-tank. Always a lot of fun, especially when it goes right.

In regards to the background not being completely black around the tomato, it looks completely fine on my standard CRT monitor - So I decided to see what it looks like on my 40" LCD - And sure enough, you can see a noticeable outline around the tomato. Appears to stand out even more when I check it on my HP laptop. So I suppose you can't get it perfect for everybody, but sometimes I find that bumping up the brightness to check any imperfections before saving is a good idea. I usually steer clear of editing/viewing photos on my laptop due to the constant changes in the viewing angle, and the lack of contrast that most laptop screens seem to have.

This is still a great shot though, and your timing looks excellent. Good idea to use blue powerade, certainly more interesting than plain water. I eagerly await your next upload.

TFS,
Scott.

hi jack
great experiment, great result,is it scotch or irish single malt used, just in case I might experiment myself.

Hi Jack, could it have been the 12yr Old single malt, rather than the darkness:)
I really like this result, well thought out & captured.
I have some 25yr.single malt, you think it would help me in trying this out:)
