Appleyard ducks

It took me ages to find out what this duck was. I had hoped to post it on TN, but it is a ‘man-made’ duck.

I posted the Silver Appleyard drake here.

This big, colourful duck was developed by Reginald Appleyard at his famous Priory Waterfowl Farm near Bury St. Edmund, England. His goal, as stated in a 1940's farm brochure, was to make a beautiful breed of duck, with a combination of beauty, size, lots of big white eggs, and a deep long, wide, breast.

This female here had a brood of ducklings and was quite happy for us to get close to them all, but not too close.

The Silver Appleyard is a large, sturdily built duck that weighs between 6 and 8 pounds. The female's bill is yellow or orange with a black bean, her eyes are brown and all plumage is generally whitish with grey, brown, fawn and buff markings with a blue cross-stripe on the wings. The legs and feet are orange with dark toenails.

Hi Janice,
This is a very nice shot with this little duck hidding in the leaves and protected by the Mother. I like these great colors and the details of the water drops on the mother.
Very well done.

Hi Janice,

Great photo of the duck (seems a little overexposed) but the little duckling compliments the photo very well!
Good details & lighting.

Well done :)

Very nicely captured, Janice. I really like your composition with the small duck in the background. Nice light, colours & sharpness. Excellent!

Sorry, my bag is empty!

I love photos likes these. :) Mother Duck seems to be smiling for you! You might have overdone with the USM as the duck seems to be drawn and not photographed. Maybe it is the effect you were after, I don't know.

Dear Janny
Howdy from Canada. What a cute photo and already a photo of a baby Duck so soon after your Duck met mine ?!? Great work Janice! Its a fantastic shot! Warm smiles and

Hoi Janice
This is what make my eyes go wet. So sweet, the care of Mother and baby even in nature. Fantastic and a cuddle photo. Bye bye

Hi Janice,
Your birdy portraits always put a smile on my face..! All right.. no emu this time, but a very charming couple of ducks!
All nicely framed, and of course it is the little one that makes this image...
Greetings,
Pablo -
