Nice desaturation technique, the red stands out well.
Maybe I'd crop a little from the right to make a squarer format and lose the 'nothingness' behind your son's head.

It's cool to see here how the artistic influence has saved this shot. :) It could have been 'just another snapshot' but your use of a shallow DOF and your placement of - and emphasis on - the candle gives the photo an offbeat edge that works well in my opinion.

Lovely birthday shot of your little lad. The desaturation works well, and you timed it well. The act of blowing out the candle is not all that photogenic.
A minor crit...if you had been a little further to the left, his face would be away from the vertical window frame, and the candle would line up better with his face.
Still, one for you to treasure.
