[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Was at McLaren Falls at the right moment, these falls are controlled as part of a hydro storage system and the water flow is opened up only occasionally to allow rafters to navigate from below the falls. I was there when this canoeist went over the falls, this is a rare event. Put the camera on continuous and shot the whole sequence from top to bottom, this shot is in the middle of the falls. Didn't have time to alter any camera settings and shot the sequence with the camera set to auto. Camera was hand held.

Many have asked if the canoeist came out of this okay ..... yes he did .... but vowed he wouldn't be doing it again in a hurry.

Hi Ralph

Nice action shot. I like the capture of the water over the rocks, you can almost hear the roar of the water.
The image is a little small, you can post up to 800 pixels.

Regards Derek

Great capture! Incredible! I like the contrast (dark/light) of the water against the rocks and the brave man there. Wow. TFS

Hello Ralph, welcome to TL.
An alternate title...Hardy Fool.
You captured the action very well.
The composition could be improved by cropping half the rocks away on the left, it would create more implied space for him to move into.
My kind regards,
Peter.

Hi Ralph welcome to TL,
great action shot, the canoeist is perhaps too central in the frame
well done
Jack

Hi Ralph,
Excellent action shot. perfect sharp, the fact the canoe çentral doesn't disturb me. The colours and contrast are fine. Next time you can upload to the maximum size of 800 pix. Anyway a good posting Ralph.
Hans

Hi Ralph

Usually putting the subject in the centre of your photograph is not a good idea. Usually compositional guidelines like 'rule of thirds' suggest placement in other parts of the frame is more powerful.

However in this instance, with the flow of water from top-to-bottom of the frame and its surrounding of fury, this works very well. Great sharpness, and perfect exposure.

p.s. I encourage you to make critiques, too, here on TL - it's a great way to get you thinking about which photos work well, and why, and will be a valuable contribution to your own skill level.

Hi Ralph,
a grand action photo. Hardy fool indeed. I trust he came out all in one piece?

Welcome to TL, enjoy the ride.

Hi Ralph

Impressive sports photo! Plenty of movement and action here, the POV and framing is superb. Good clarity and saturation.

A superb result, especially as you hand held your camera. Great work! TFS.

Best wishes,
Martyn
