Gerbera jamesonii
Family: Asteraceae/Compositae (Daisy Family)
Common names: Gerbera, African daisy, Transvaal daisy, Barberton daisy
Native Habitat: Endemic to South Africa

Don’t you just love these flowers? Always so pretty and colourful.

There are about 40 species of Gerbera distributed from Africa across to Madagascar into tropical Asia and South America. Through hybridization, many colours are available.

Gerbera is very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. Unfortunately their stems are quite weak and don't stand too well in a vase.

This is one occasion when I break the rule of never posting an item, be it flower or bird, car or whatever, that I have placed it right in the centre of the photo.

As you can see, the flower is not facing any way. It is looking right at me. So I have positioned it right in the centre of the frame. I like it – and I hope you do too.

It was suggested that I clone out the little messy marks on the petals - my reply is:

No cloning!! Those little bits are part of the flower. The pollen and the wrinkled petals. It's not a perfect flower, but it is natural.

Anyone agree?

Beautiful capture of the beautiful flower. Nice detail.

HI Janice,

THis is a stunning gerbera, I have not seen this one before.

Simple yet effective, I have no issue with this flower being centred in this composition as it certainly doesn't diminish the beauty that comes from it. Informative note too. Well done and tfs.

Best wishes,
Martyn

Hello Janice,

I'm not so sure about always sticking to rules, sometimes instict works better. When the flower is facing and the format is square, this seems like the perfect position.
The colour and textural details are sharp and enjoyable. I like how the dof isolates it nicely.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Lovely sharp photo, I don't think there is anything wrong with placing the gerbera in the centre of the photo in this case. The colour of the petals interests me I have never seen a gerbera like this or have you changed the colour PP?

You rule breaker! Where have I seen this pink Gerbera before? Hmmmm I shall run it on Tineye! HAHAHA! I think rules were made to be broken you bad girl! I shall tell Hansie what you have done! He he.... HE will come to TEXAS his next visit! WONDERFUL sharpness...

These flowers, the Gerbera are not that special for me, cause I worked with them for a couple of years and my father brought them home every day. So we were all of our days surrouded by all kinds of gerbera's. They became a piece of inventory.:)
But somethimes...like now.. it grabs my attention! Well done, Janice!

Hello Janice.
Notting wrong with...It fitts perfect, right ?
Yes, Gerbera's are beautiful coloured flowers.
In this case, a bit clone work would helped to remove the little things on it.
Regards, Jan

Hi Janice, beautiful gerbera, nice post procesing, goood colors and details

Hi Janice,
You show here why the "rule" never put the main object in the centre isn't applicable :-) Excellent centrilized image, in fact it has a perfect circle symmetry. Superb striking colours and exxcellent sharp. A fine posting my dear!

Very eyecatching!

Cheers
Dawn

Have no comment to make about the central positioning of the Fleur but like you say it has wrinkled petals,I like the fact that you shot it like it is, that's nature, good call.

Ralph

Rules are meant to be broken when the subject is so charming and shot is so sharp, focused and detailed and such vivid colors.I love it
