PEST!
The White Cabbage Butterfly
Pieris rapae,
Introduced to New Zealand

This is a REAL butterfly in the REAL world, and NOT at a Butterfly House. Even if it is only a pesty old White Cabbage Butterfly, I caught it!! I stopped at this rose garden in Rotorua a few weeks back and here was this White Cabbage Butterfly sitting on the aging rose.

This is a female White Cabbage Butterfly

The female has two pairs of spots on the wings which are closest to the insects’ head.

The male only has one pair of spots. The rear set of wings has one pair of spots on both sexes.

I was lucky she stayed there for a few seconds before flying off again...

Lovely detail Janice, well exposed too. Not always easy with white on white.
Well done also to actually get the shot, they don't keep still for very long.
I would like to see a tighter crop, the rose is a little messy.
I must admit, I wouldn't have shot with my Canon, I would have used Raid ;)
Pete.

This is very elegant! Perfect detail and dof. Amazing work! TFS

Nice shot Janice...are these from the green caterpillar that eat through most of our green vege plants?
The white on white works well...but I do agree with Pete about a closer crop.
I have done a quick WS..hope thats ok :)

Regards
Tracey

Great picture of this horrible butterfly
nice details amd exposure
TFS

Nice sharp details on the butterfly, great to catch it alighting on a rose and not a cabbage. Nice notes.
