Little Shag, or Little Pied Shag
Maori: Kawaupaka
Phalacrocorax melanoleucos brevirostris

This Little Shag was sitting on the stern of a boat at Lake Rotorua. I walked along the wharf next to it and carefully settled down beside it I took lots of photos.

He kept preening himself and got into some strange angles, this being one of the funniest.

This is the smallest shag found in New Zealand. It is one of 12 species of New Zealand shag - elsewhere in the world they are called Cormorants.

Plumages are highly variable ranging from all black to pied, but all have short stubby, yellow bills (adult), a brown eye and black feet. Adults have yellow facial skin and a small black crest on the forehead.

Little Shags are widespread and common throughout New Zealand.

très belle "capture" de cette attitude
j'ai un certain retard pour découvrir toutes les photos de ces derniers temps, quelques jours de vacances qui imposent après de se reposer!!! c'est celle là qui me fascine le plus; on croit y être!
