so... this last weekend, I had the wonderful 'treat', of a whole weekend ,to spend with our eldest daughter, Cushla,...with no fixed plans for either of us!
We settled on driving to the Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand, which she had never before visited.
There, we discovered wonderful beaches, fascinating wineries( those buildings!!!) and a fabulous Farmers Market, along with lots of enthusiasm from cushla, for me to make the most of photo opportunites:-)
steve...I found some inspiration for some night/light/exposure ideas(at last!!)
So..as we started to play around..here is one that I liked, of this most impressive clock tower, in Napier.. the city of art deco in New Zealand.
Napier was badly damaged in an earthquake in 1931, somuch of the city was rebuilt ,in a similar time span. The style of the time was what we today call art deco, and it has been well maintained by the city ,today.
No tripod, so I was quite pelased with how steady I managed for 1/60...:-)..for shakey me!!!
all critiques, comments, thoughts and tips will be welcomed.thanks for your visit.

Bonsoir.
Une splendide image de ces décorations.
C'est bien net et bien cadré.
Bravo !

Hi Meagan,
A great shot! I like the way the neon lights are the only thing showing through along with a slight overspill/ glow.
I would almost put this into the abstract category too.
Well done for a hand held shot, no coffee that day?
Thanks,
b.

Hi Meagan, what fun for you and Cushla to go together to Napier. I have enjoyed my hols down there, and those Art Deco buildings, etc would be great to see with a digital camera now.
The clock looks good, and I am impressed with your steady hand. The lights look good, and you two girls were up late at 10.50pm. Wwell done,
Janice

What a great shot, I used to live in Napier and it is a great placle will be back down there next month so looking forward to photo oportunities too...... and this is defintely one I would like to capture.... Thank you:)

What a great shot Meagan, I am sure impressed with the way you were out with the camera at that time of night wondering around just looking for photo ops! A very interesting choice of setting to use to get the shot, but you have done great with it! It must have been a lot brighter in "real life" to look at, but you have created a great mood feel with this shot! Nice idea.

The only comment I can make is perhaps the second from left "leg" has something obstructing it, a little sad, kinda looks broken ;-)

Hi Meagan,
So you show us an other view of New Zealand. Very interesting posting particular the nicely coloured hands of the clock are well captures the 'empt' dome with the bright lightened stripes makes this phot interesting. Well done my dear Meagan and TFS!
Hans

:) Later...

As promised...

Hello Meagan!

Trying new stuff (^_^) Gooood ! It is always fun to experiment. Difficult to do better without a tripod. Otherwise , a longer exposure will have resulted in a movement in your hands most likely. may I propose you a little WS, to increase a bit the luminosity here.
I hope you will like it and find it constructive.
Cheers!
Robert
