Curves from the Brynderwyn Hill

I took this photo when driving north last year. My son Phillip and I were going north to Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands to say goodbye to my sister who was dying. It was a very special day for us both and even though it was a sad day we both had a special time together, and it is a day I won’t forget.

As you come over the Brynderwyn hill the scene opens up and you can see for miles – the Whangarei Heads and all the northern islands of the Hauraki Gulf are all there to see.

We had left Auckland early in the morning and this was the first place we stopped at to take photos of the view. But the sun was low and the sky too hazy to get any good water views.

Check out the Workshop for a view of the Whangarei Heads from the top of the hill.

The Brynderwyn Range is one of the most prominent geographical features between Whangarei and Auckland.

The Brynderwyn hills stretch from the Mangawhai Heads on the east coast nearly halfway to the eastern arms of the Kaipara Harbour.
The summit of the Brynderwyn Hills on State Highway 1 opposite the Skyline Tearooms is 293 metres high.

Good lines, the changing light has a pleasant effect. Excellent mood and very good composition! Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hello Janice,

The low sun is what has made this shot so amazing! I have never seen anthing quite like this before where the hills are in darkness but beautifully defined by the light of the sun. I think I might have cropped a little of the b/g which gives the hills even more impact.

It does look a little sombre and I can understand why it helped to make this a moving experience for you.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello,
amazing landscape curves, very nice composition and light
regards
Ryszard

Hi Janice,
A lovely landscape photo with so many beautiful curves captured in it. The piece of land in the FG is very effective and gives the composition a base to stand on. The slighty hazy look in the distance gives the photo an extra touch of mood. I am not sure that leaving in the very bright sky was a good idea. Human eyes are attracted to light and my eyes seem to lock on to this bright part.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Janice,
excellent compo for the friday theme.I liked reguler lines so much.TFS.Necla.

love the view of the rolling hills of the country.
good details, a bit on the dark side though.
nevertheless, the background and the lighted part of the hills on the foreground are well define to fit this week's theme.

Hello Janice,an eye catcher! This stands out in the thumbnails.
The sunlight highlighting the ridges is really beautiful.
The distant landscape is a bonus.
Good notes.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hello Janice.
Gorgeous landscape curves in this picture.
Pity, on my screen a bit at the dark side, hope its not on yours ?
Will check it tomorrow morning with day light.
Regards, Jan

Hi Janice, A very beautiful moody picture. I do like how you have caught the sunlight lit ridges of the hills and think too it would have been a good reflection of your emotions on the day. TFS Well done.
Cheers, Pat.

Hey Janice, a very beautiful capture! Nice curves and layers. Light is perfect.

Cheers,
Shubhi:)

Beautiful landscape; with two big curves in the foreground. I love how the sun is on top of them, making a line. TFS

Hi Janice,
The Brandywines were the best part of the trip north.
Nice early morning light picking out the rims of the rolling hills.
I know you wanted the distant vista included, but to me a crop at the top makes this a stunning landscape.
Pete.

Beautiful light in this one, Janice, and very nice curves indeed. The stroke of light on top of the curves enhances their shape perfectly, even though the side of the hills that is turned towards us is a tad dark - but still enough details can be made out.
TFS.

Hello Janice.

Excellent picture, nice composition and curves.

Regards.
Jose luis.

Hello Janice,
I do like the curves of the landscape and the way in which light and shadow underline the shapes of these hills. Very good light managment here.
However, the faraway horizon detracts, in my opinion, from that interesting play of lines and light and from the visual effect it creates. So, I would have choosen a tighter crop and cut the landscape beyond the second hill.
TFS & kind regards,
Erik

Just a little more sharp, and it is a perfect shot ! Wonderful light and composition !
Best regards
John
