Te Werahi beach and Cape Maria van diemen

Cape Maria van Diemen is the westernmost point of the North Island of New Zealand. Being close to the northern tip of the Aupouri Peninsula, many people in New Zealand also incorrectly believe it to be the northernmost point (that title goes to the Surville Cliffs, 30 kilometres to the east and slightly further north). Originally an island composed mainly of basaltic-andesitic lava flows and dykes, drifting sands have joined it to the rest of the North Island during the late Pleistocene.

The cape was named by Abel Tasman after the wife of his patron, Anthony van Diemen, Governor General of Batavia (now Jakarta) in January 1643, on the same voyage of discovery during which he named Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania). It is - along with the Three Kings Islands - one of only two geographic features in New Zealand to retain the names given to them by Abel Tasman.

Hi Tim

IMpressive level composition. Good POV across this beach and beyond. Good clarity too. This is a rugged and stunning part of New Zealand. TFS.

Regards,
Martyn

Hi Tim,
Didn't went so far up north, but it apppears to me as a place to visit. Great perspective excellent colours. POV is stunning as always. A fine view of the utmost part of NZ. Funny to realise this place has a Dutch history.

Hi Tim,
a well composed shot with the bay sweeping round to the islands and good depth of field. I think the central horizon works well, it would be a shame to crop out that lovely sky and the horizon shows the curvature of the earth
cheers

Hello Tim,
A wonderful landscape here and you captured that very well!
Great colors and light. Very good pov, composition and depth!
Well done!

TFS and greetings from Netherlands,
Adri

Good colours, good light, although not sure why you didn't engage the rule-of-thirds for this, placement of the horizon seems a little undecided.

Kia Ora Tim!

Sweet , looking at your note , i could not help it , I had to find it in my KIWI Guide. Cap Reinga was only shown , so I had to check with Google Map
to see actually what you were meaning. Thanks for the useful note to help me out.

Rugged coast line, but what a ciool place to enjoy some peaceful moments. I guess the seas can be very rough at times around here.
Keep on the good work,
Robert
