First and Warm Light at Cape Maria Van Diemen.

Drove 5-6 hours up from Auckland at night to get to the tip of North Island for first light. It is a fairly easy drive, no one on the roads except for the last 20km as the road is unsealed. Very tiring drive there and back but the unspoilt scenery was well worth the trip.

Cape Maria van Diemen, facing the Tasman Sea, is the westernmost of the three points of land at the northern end of New Zealand, the other two being Cape Reinga and North Cape. The cape was name by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in January 1643 in honour of the Governor of Bativia's wife.

Nikon D80 + 18-135mm lens used.

Awesome postcard-like shot Jim. Very worth the late trip there to watch the daybreak from this beautiful vantage point. I love the warm and rich tones in this shot, certainly feels like first thing in the morning. Wonderful composition with the arcing island, the Toitois in the FG are a nice touch too :). Well seen.

TFS,
Scott.

Hello Jim,
very fine presentation here where you managed to catch and deliver an incredible mood. The first light with its warm glow kissing the earth have created a beautiful game of shades and light; the gradient in the sky is stunning, its contrast with the color of the earth sun-kissed simply great. Quality is outstanding throughout, making this picture shine in every aspect of it, my compliments.
Thanks for sharing it and regards,

Ele

Hello Jim,

The light in this shot is stunning!
The sun is so low that it is painting the tall grasses horizontally with its golden light yet castig other places into deep shadow. Fabulous!

You have made a lot of effort to secure this shot and every minute was worth it!
This has to be a favourite!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

What a shot! Beautiful postcardesque vision of this landscape. The light was absolutely perfect - the low sun has touched everything with gold.

I think that horizon is pitched very slightly down to the left, but otherwise - this is a lovely shot.

This is a stunning photo Jim! Wonderful comp! I love the curve of the shoreline! Really nice blue and beige combination of colors, very complimentary! Nice quality shot!

Lovely warm light Jim, sometimes the drive is worth it when you see a vista like this. The curve of the shore line leads the eye to the headland and you can't help wondering whats beyond. Well done.

Hi Jim,
what a lovely and scenic capture of the beach and hills. Such a great colour and the landscape is outstanding. You have presented it really well.
I like the strong like in the foreground and the addition of the grass flowers.
Very well composed.

Foozi
