Magnolia

I had a rushed trip up north today - about 500kms return, leaving home at 6am and returning at 7pm. I'm rather tired and exhausted now.

I took this photo in my sister's garden in Kerikeri. They have a warmer climate up there being closer to the equator(!) and Kerikeri is called the "Fruit Bowl of the North", known for its citrus and kiwifruit growing.

From the air, Kerikeri is a huge garden with ordered rows of citrus, kiwifruit, macadamia nuts and many varieties of horticultural products screened by high shelter belts.

All along the side of the road, orchards sell their delicious oranges, kiwi fruit and avocados. (We bought oranges to bring home, plus some fruit called Tamarillos or Tree Tomatoes - yummy!)

The day was so hot and sunny, and this is a photo of one of my sister's many Magnolias growing in her garden.

Thanks for your comments about my naked ladies Janice. Not sure if I cropped the photo or just happened to shoot that way.

This floral photo is really special in my opinion. You've created the feeling of an abstract painting by focusing in so close the center of the flower.

It reminds me of the concept of a painter whom I heard about in NYC years ago. I never saw her work, but her husband (or live in) talked about how she would paint flowers on huge canvases in the close up way that you photographed this flower. One of the problems that she had was that the flower would respond to the light and change its shape before she finished the painting; interesting, huh?
