This is my second Panorama - But it is a real one this time!!

I stitched it, using 4 photos, taken with my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lens. It was hand-held – sorry, we were travelling home from further north and only stopped here for a minute or two!!

Please click here or on the photo to see it in the larger version.

This is Whangarei Harbour, about 150kms north of where I live.

Whangarei Harbour is the largest harbour in Northland at 45km long and up to 6.5km wide. Small settlements and beaches are dotted along the harbour’s bays and the harbour is also home to the deep water port that provides general bulk/cargo facility for the region. The harbour is of vital importance as a shipping port and boatbuilding centre.

Those high bush-clad peaks you can see in the distance are what protect the harbour from storms and winds. They rise sheer from sea level to almost 1,400 ft. From a distance these peaks present a jagged toothlike outline etched in the sky and in many ways resemble the some mediaeval castle.

To the right you can see Marsden Point, the site of New Zealand's crude oil refinery, processing oil from the Middle East and Taranaki. In contrast to most such industrial operations, Marsden Point is set in pleasant surroundings, the nearby beach being a popular swimming area in summer.

For no tripod Janice superb! Love the paler colours and that impressive hills. Well done and TFS,
David

PS clicking on the image will also give the larger view.

Hi Janice,
You're an old hand at this panorama business now. This is really well done.
It is not easy to have both immediate foreground and distance to stitch seamlessly.
It's a shame that panoramas have to be so small, so much detail gets lost.
Cheers,
Pete.
PS, As I posted my comment I saw Davids note about clicking on the image...WOW!
Thanks David.

Hi Janice,
A stunning view of this lovely bay area. The fact that you created a stitch of four handheld taken photos is very impressive. There are just two small spots where the stitch is visable, but those are too small to make the view less impressive. I like the way you used the foilage in the front to give depth to the photo.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Janice,
Great panorama, well you have done a hreat job in stitching these images together, I tried this once and it was not good and I used a tripod, interesting landscape and the bushes in the foreground give a depth to the image.
Tfs Andy

Well done on your stitching Janice, and Pano, certainly looks great in the big form.

Maybe a white frame, with a little black line around it, wouldnt make it look so heavy.. in this smaller size.. just a thought my friend.

Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Dawn

Well done, Janice, especially for handheld shots. The large version shows the stitches in the sky, some more tuning with the eraser might have been needed. But, as said, they're only faintly visible. The colours seem a bit flat though, why not enhance the saturation a bit?
The view is stunning though... impossible to give us a good idea of the landscape without a panorama, don't you agree?
