Double Hibiscus

What a beauty this was - and it was the most photographed hibiscus on the trip... Actually it was growing on Norfolk Island, but it's now snuck in under New Zealand!!

The majority of the current hybrids are produced in Florida, California, Hawaii, and Australia, but hibiscus are massively prevalent all over the warmer parts of the world. A large amount of the breeding is done by hobby growers, frequently retirees who are involved in the American Hibiscus Society or its overseas affiliates.

Hibiscus flowers are perfect for decoration, given that the flowers will not wilt, even with no water, until it is time for them to close naturally. Opening buds can be picked in the early hours of the morning, placed tenderly in the refrigerator, and brought out for evening celebrations; the cold delays the hibiscus flower's closing by quite a few hours.

Some of the Uses for Hibiscus:

In places such as India and Jamaica, the crushed flowers of the hibiscus are used as black shoe polish, and are often called shoe-flower because of it.
t has been reported that the hibiscus flower can also be used as a natural sleek black hair dye.
The flowers of the hibiscus are also suitable for eating, and add vibrant colour to salads.
The hibiscus flowers are even often used in herbal teas.

Goodness me Janice this is fantastic

Absolutely razor sharp and fantastic colour. Lighting is just perfect and your framing is not too harsh so it sets the beautiful flower off perfectly.

Love it

TFS regards Helen
