I love these beaches up here in the northern part of Aotearoa, and Matauri Bay is a very special one.
My bro-in-law spent a lot of WW2 stationed here guarding Northland from the invading Japanese. Can you imagine all those young NZ soldiers camped in tents - lots of rugby was played, and they must have done a lot of fishing too. And their social life - miles from anywhere - notthe best for them!!

To be honest with you Dawn the thumbnail was not impressive, but upon opening the image - WOW. Colors are vibrant and the clarity and composition is really impressive.

How privileged you must feel, and I would be glad to take you up on your invitation and walk right in (how cold is the water??- I can manage from 16C and up).
