Hole in the Rock

A boat trip to the "Hole in the Rock" in the Bay of Islands was quite spectacular. Huge waves around the rock made it feel like a rollercoaster. No change to go through the hole (unfortunately). Anyway a fine moment to capture this special moment in New Zealand.

Used a fast shutter speed due the rocking boat.

PP work: Slight crop, adjustment of contrast and saturation, resized and sharpened. Finally add frame.

Hans
I particularly like the color of the water and the waves crasing inside the hole. Looks like you managed were well on the rocking boat - texture of the rock well captured.

Hi Hans,
Superb seascape!
This is looking a little like our well known Perce Rock!
Excellent rendering of the textures on the rock! I like much the turquoise colors of water. Just an OE on the waves, but, into a boat, this is hard to make better! Bravo! Annie

Hi Hans, rocking boat .. uuuggghhh!
Despite the rocking, you've managed to capture a great shot .. great color and detail, nice splashing waves on the left, and in the hole too.
Have a nice weekend.

This is an amazing shot Hansie!! You can really tell the force of Mother Nature here! Amazing sharpness for a rocky boat! I can even see the splashes on the other side of the hole! Incredible shot! Nice work on this one!

XOXOXOXO
Happy Valentines Day!

Hi Hans,
Beautiful geological formations, well captured moment, I like that the waves are splashing into onto this huge rock. Wonderful colours and sharpness, excellent clarity without any noise or OE.
This landscape resembles me the Twelve Apostols at the south shores of Australia, not far away from this place. :) I don't know whether you have been there, but that's a gorgeous place like this one! Thanks for bringing back my memories!
Greetings,
Kristof

Wow. Spectacular capture Hans, with very good composition, the low placement of waterline and hole and the inclusion of the rock wall above gives a great sense of the scale and visual impact of this.

Possibly a little bright on the breaking waves' white, some OE that could have been reduced a little in PP?

Rew

Hola Hans.
Muy buenos detalles y contrastes.
Gran encuadre e interesante nota.
Saludos, JL.

Hello Hans,

Great shot, especially the details of the waterdrops clashing off the rocks.
Here my camera had let me down. But you know with which equipment I had to work. Anyway, great picture.

Hello Hans, excellent PoV,I like the close proximity to this great lump of rock.
The colours of the sea are outstanding.
Good timing, just catching the breaking wave.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Hans, you certainly had the shutter cranked up for this one and it worked for you. I agree with Rew about the low placement of the water line, that was certainly a good call for this shot.

I have been to the Hole in the Rock and we went through it, it was rough but we were on a large boat and it seemed very small when we were inside, we came through from the other side of the rock.

regards

Ralph

Fascinating shot! What I like the most is 3 colours of the sea (wave colours-white, deep blue and kight blue)

hey yah this is great! wonderful timing of the waves crashing, cool rock formation, excellent "from the water" point of view, the colors and sharpness perfect,

scott

Wow Hansie - I love it - what a shot showing the rough weather in the hole.
And I am so sorry you couldn't go through the hole in the rock - it is quite an experience.

Happy Valentines Day to you too MF

Hallo Hans,

Een prachtfoto weer, mooie details.
Wat zouden we zien als we door het gat waren?
De zee, de golven: wat een kleuren! je hoort ze!
Mooi dat je dat stukje blauw rechts er nog bij hebt gelaten.
tfs,

groetjes, Marga

Hi Hans,
A very interesting photo. From the waves you can see that the ride was pretty rough! The POV gives a nice sense of the motion of the waves.

Hi Hans, This is very fine. The colours and rock textures are clear. The water colour is especially inspiring. I hadn't seen this before. A very good NZ series. TFS. Murray.

Dear Hans, this a great shot.Although a bit over exposed but loved the splashing waves on both the side of the hole. The color and sharpness of the picture are very good. NIce attempt and lovely post!

Have A Wonderful Day Ahead!
Cheers,
Shubhi:)
