Mangawhai Heads

This photo was taken on my old Sony Camera. It decided to die that day and I lost a lot of photos that I had taken at the beach.

But I did quite like the look of some of them - including this one. It makes me think it is more like a water colour painting than a photo.

The sky colours are a bit wrong, but otherwise I am quite happy with it.

Mangawhai is a quiet little beach resort, nestled between the coast and beautiful rolling farmland, about an hour and a half north of Auckland, and just under an hour south of Whangarei on the eastern side of Northland.

The Mangawhai estuary is bordered by a sandy dune-field - Mangawhai's sand dunes are a dominant feature of the harbour. It changes constantly.

The estuary is safe for swimming, but watch out for the outgoing tide near the mouth of the harbour. For the fisherman, the estuary provides many fish. There are cockles on the estuary mudflats and pipi further up the harbour.

We spent a few days at Mangawhai last Easter when friends were holidaying while out from England. The temperature was around 22 - 26C, while it was 4C back in the UK.

Hi Janice,
Nice shot, looks like it was a busy day. The cliff in the distance looks a little un-sharp but that's probably due to your old camera. Great composition though, the guy walking with his son is a good comparison as to how large the rocks really are.

TFS,
Scott.

Busy day at the beach Janice... oohh I can see me there swimming..Thank goodness you didnt have your BIG ZOOM lens.. haha.

Nice foreground interest with the rocks and those people on the left... Keep snapping baby!!

This looks beautifully summery and relaxed! Nice balance between sea and sky, the blueish tones through the shot give that sense of midday heat. Very nice placement of the point-of-interest, the two walkers on the beach.

Hi Janice, This is a quintesential NZ beach scene. Plenty of details including the surfers, the rocks and the kiddies enjoying life. Reminds me of my happy youth on the black sands of Oakura. TFS. Murray.
