[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Cape Reinga is generally considered the separation marker between the Tasman Sea to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east. From the lighthouse it is possible to watch the tidal race, as the two seas clash to create unsettled waters just off the coast. The Māori refer to this as the meeting of Te Moana-a-Rehua, 'the sea of Rehua' with Te Tai-o-Whitirea, 'the sea of Whitirea', Rehua and Whitirea being a male and a female respectively.
The cape is often mistakenly thought of as being the northernmost point of the North Island, and thus, of mainland New Zealand. However, North Cape's Surville Cliffs, 30 km east of Cape Reinga, are slightly further north. Another headland just to the west of Cape Reinga is Cape Maria van Diemen, which was discovered and named by the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman during his journey in 1642 and thought of by him to be the northernmost point of the newly-discovered country he named 'Staten Landt'.

Wonderful place to stand here Tim, which I have done on a few occassions now... mostly its pretty windy when I have been.. but looks like you had a good day here... wonderful colours and beautifully sharp.

Cheers
Dawn

What a beautiful day you had there Tim.. I love Lighthouses, excellent point of view and well defined colours.. Due to wide angle lens there is a bit of distortion visible so I have tried a w/s..
cheers

Hello Tim,

Beautiful composition with the colors and well returned contrasts.
This headlight is leaning naturally, or is this a visual effect?
Well done

Laurent

Things have changed up at Cape Reinga Tim, since I was last there. There were a lot of road / path works going on and it was suggested that no one walk down to the lighthouse - but after paying all the $$$'s to get up there everyone ignored the message.

But the changes look good - it is interesting to see the small wall on the right... and the crazy paving.

I like your composition looking back up the path behind the lighthouse - and especially seeing the beach on the right. And the super day certainly helps too.

Well captured
Janice

Hi Tim
Superb blues which contrasts very well with the yellow signs. I like how we can see the cape to the right.

Jim

Hi Tim,

Love the intense coloring in this one - great pov and composition as well. My only quibble would be that there is no sign pointing to St. Louis! Oh well, can't have everything!

Wonderful job!
