Hi folks... Ive been away for a little break, 6 days in Taranaki.. thats about 5.5 hours drive south from my place.. We took a very leisurely drive through the "Forgotten World Highway" (kiwis should know of this, from Taumarunui to Stratford) on our way to our destination. We stayed with friends, and on one of the days we visited Patea Beach in South Taranaki, where I took this photo of these birds, sorry I dont know what birds they are, maybe you could help ? I was happy to catch this snap of a newly caught fish! with my 70-300mm lens.

wow, superb capture !

welcome back,
v

Excellent. Lovely composition with the 2 birds in complimentary balletic poses. The fish is a real bonus.
My Kiwi bird book is downstairs so I can't tell you offhand what these are. You should put this on Trek Nature and you will have lots of birders responding.
One small suggestion - use the dodge tool to slightly lighten up the eyes of the birds so we see more detail.

I'm pleased to see you used your 70-300mm lens Dawn.

Good action shot of the Terns, my dear!! And it looks like you timed lunch time perfectly. And the fish looks like a piper too. (See, TN has taught me lots!)

Well done and it's good to have you back

Hi Dawn,
Janice is right, Terns with a Piper.
Nicely timed shot, well lit, and that all important catchlight in their eyes.
Piper are just divine pan fried in a little butter, nothing else.
Pete.

Hi Dawn,

Perfect moment capturing these birds with the fresh fish . .

Hey cuz - the f6.3 has given great sharpness to these birds and to catch one with a fish in its beach really is something - the kinds shot any bird photographer would like to have, I reckon. Very nicely done!!

A great shot of some beautiful Terns - the sharpness in the birds and the fish is superb and the timing to get this composition was excellent.
Thanks for sharing

I think what you lot call a piper is what we call garfish. Excellent Dawn, good colour and detail and that moss on the post really adds a dash of life. Well done,
David
