[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This frond belongs to a Silver Tree Fern (Cyathea dealbata), so named because of the silvery underside of the fronds. There is one genus with seven species in New Zealand.

The structure of the fronds is impressive, possessing many unfolding swirls and curves as it develops and extends outwards to help form a canopy of shade. The fronds grow more or less at right angles to the supporting trunk and may reach four metres in length and 1.2 metres wide. While unfurling, their fronds may grow at a rate of 25 millimetres a day.

Hi Martyn,
Wonmderful capture of this silver tree fond. It looks huge!
I'm not sure about the frame, for me it's a bit distractive. Anyway a fine image of New Zealands nature.

Pin sharp details Martyn and nice DOF, the shadow on the bottom of the stem is a nice touch.

Razor-sharp clarity and details Martyn, a very Kiwi photo. Superb colours and presentation, works well :).

TFS,
Scott.

Nicely captured, good colours and exquisite details. Maybe the exposure could've been a little quicker, the highlight isn't OE but brighter than it needs to be IMO.

The frame is certainly intricate!

hi Martyn

I am shocked when opening up this view!

I thought being in Borneo and tropical rainforest jungle, I had seen the best of ferns. But I am wrong. This one is a giant! I hope I am not fooled by camera macro trick, but this is really huge compared to what I have seen in Borneo.

You have done a good job in documenting this fern and with very good sharpness and clarity from a nice angle of shot. Very informative and useful note that you have written to help understand this one.

tfs, bill

Bonjour Martyn
Nature is never in lack of creativity, these shapes are fantastic and your shot gives them well in nice colours and good frame too

This is so deceptive...it looks huge. I must look out for this species when I come over there in the next few months. Nice one Martyn
