~ Rusty Rails ~

Just for something a little different today, I have posted a photo I took a few weeks ago of the railway station at Pahiatua, Wairarapa district. I used a very low POV for this shot to create an usual and alternative perspective on a railways station and tracks.

Pahiatua is a small, sleepy township under the shadow of the Tararua Range, North Island. The township is south of Woodville and east of Palmerston North, the latter being on the western side of the Tararua Range.

The railway station, such as it is nowadays, is no longer used by the general public. It is in effect a derelict building. This is because the rail route is no longer used for public transport but nowadays only used for freight between Gisborne, Napier and the Hawkes Bay district down to Masterton and Wellington. This is a real shame as the countryside is attractive and I am certain tourists would welcome the excursion across this part of New Zealand.

Thanks for viewing.

Hi Martyn,
Great shot, I thought this was the Glenbrook Vintage Railway when I saw the thumbnail! Very nice low POV, excellent clarity too. The exposure on the tracks looks perfect, excellent idea mate.

TFS,
Scott.

Your very low POV works well, the shadow from the rail onto the sleepers give and interesting blue tone. Well done.

I've noticed a couple of stations close by that I must visit

Hi Martyn,
great view of the old station, hope you had some old clothes on
cheers
Jack

Nice POV and good use of lead-in, here.

A good argument here for HDR or layer treatment - the lower half and the upper half represent two different metering requirements, and if you were able to blend a lightened lower half with a darkened upper, the levels throughout would be more balanced IMO.

Nice shot!

Greetings Martyn,
Looks like someone is looking after the upkeep of the unused railway station,it looks in good condition. By the looks of those hills in the background I think your idea of having an excursion train operational for tourists, could be worthwhile.
I like you low POV with the shadow of the rail track across the ties. The left track leads the eye right into the centre of the image allowing to take in all the details as we travel along it. Strong compositin, good details & sharpness.

dear Martyn,
when my childhood, I used to listen the sound of the train touching my ear to the rail, I saw the rail and world from very low level like this your shot.
this tasteful rusty color is well contrasted with the blue reflection in the shadow of the rail itself.
low perspectives show us different feeling of same world, it is something nostalgic.
thank you,
Akihisa
