Ferry in the Harbour

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Several times a day, ferries like this one travel between the North and South Islands of New Zealand. I shot this one on an overcast day, so decided to convert it to black and white. I used a telephoto lens to get the flat perspective with the mountains in the background, which are about 50km away.
I've posted the original color version as a workshop for comparison. The color version is a direct conversion from the RAW with no processing. |

As much as I enjoy your work, I don't know if this one quite works - in my opinion, of course!
I guess the 'problem' is the flatness of the image - both in terms of dynamic, and depth of field. The ferry and the land beyond it all tends to blend into one, and it loses its impact.
I also don't have any suggestions to improve it, though. I tried a couple of workshops but both looked flat - if nothing else, I'm inspired now to do some research online to find out how how to get great shots on dull days!!

Hi Adam, I like this as it brings back memories when i lived at Roseneath for four years, not far from here. The snow of the mountains and the cool looking sea shows Wellington in winter so well. TFS. Murray.
