[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This cactus is called Golden Rat Tail or Monkey Tail Cactus.
It comes from Argentina to Uruguay.

Growth Habits:
It is a Columnar cactus that forms masses of columns, up to 3 feet tall (90 cm),.
The stems grow to 2.5 inches in diameter (6 cm);
The spines are from from 0.4 to 1 cm, and are quite sharp.

It has golden yellow spines on slender stems that flower from December to February in NZ

Yes, it has an ant on it – it doesn’t seem to mind the spikes.

And yes, I did use my tripod for this one. . .

Hi Janice, great shot and composition with the cactus across the frame and the backlit flower, the subtle lighting looks great and this is enhanced by the contrast with the dark background as well.

Hello Janice.
Like a monkey tail, better not to touch. (Like I did, what make him very angry)
Beautiful picture of this Cactus flower. They can be gorgeous.
Have a nice weekend.
Jan

Excellent macreo in natural against light.

HI Janice

A beautiful cactus! I like your POV with this illumination of the flower. Sharp detail and effective DOF used.

I also like the inclusion of the ant which appears to be heading towards the sweet nectar within the flower. Great capture.

Well done! TFS,

Martyn

the ant has captured wonderfuly, nice defused foreground, i find little noise but that must be because of low light at the certain areas.
