On our first day in Christchurch we arrived in a strong howling Nor'wester. This had closed the nearby skifield of Mt Hutt so we took a drive to the charming little township of Akaroa.

Akaroa is a town on Banks Peninsula in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand. It is 82 kilometres by road from Christchurch.
According to the March 2001 New Zealand census of population and dwellings, the permanent population was 576, and the town has a high (31%) ratio of residents aged over 65 years.

Set on a beautiful, sheltered harbour and overlooked by craggy volcanic hills, Akaroa is a popular resort town. In summer the temporary population can reach 7,000 which places stress on the water supply which is entirely dependent upon rainfall on the hills.

Although sailors from the hastily-despatched HMS Britomart proclaimed British sovereignty over the South Island at Akaroa in 1840, the area was settled that same year by French settlers who had intended to establish a colony. The area still has a French influence, reflected in many local placenames.

Hello Patricia. The framing of this image is effective. The colours of the background seem a bit washed out but overall is nicely saturated. I like the view and the good angle used to capture this scene. You balanced the image very well by including the trees on the left. They create a nice focal point on the foreground. Good work Patricia.

Hi Pat

A lovely shot, nicely framed by the tree. I hope the weather has improved for you. :-)

Hi Patricia,
An outstanding picture, an attractive view, well balanced with the natural fram of the tree on the left. Fina natural colours too. Excellent posting my dear Patricia!
Hans

Nice composition and a beautiful capture of this picturesque spot. It feels very very slightly washed out, the saturation isn't quite as deep as we're used to seeing, but it's a shot beautifully put together.
Nicely done

What a beautiful spot Patricia, i always remember the twisty drive to Akaroa. We camped on the hill overlooking the town.

Regards Mark :)

Hi Patricia.
Very beautiful. Great composition. Great light. Nice use of those trees to frame the shot. Could use a little more saturation IMHO. Well done.
Regards, Steve.
