New Brighton Pier in Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand
History:
The original New Brighton Pier, built in 1894, stood on the same site as the present pier. When the original pier was threatened with demolition in 1963 a group of residents, formed the Pier and Foreshore Society to try to save it. However, it was unsuccessful and the pier was demolished in 1964.
On 1 November 1997 the new pier was officially opened, the culmination of more than 30 years work by the Pier and Foreshore Society. It raised almost $2 million from the community which was matched by a further $2 million from the Christchurch City Council.
Pier facts:
•Length: 300 metres
•Height: 7 metres above high tide
•Width: 6 metres
•Deck: 900mm thick pre-stressed concrete
•Piles: 17 piles, 1.4 metres diameter, 20 metres apart |

Amazing clarity and brillient light level. Great POV used too Steve along the New Brighton Pier. TFS.
Martyn
Lovely clear, crisp shot with great leading lines and I love the wee splashes of yellow throughout the pic. Great use of a low point of view as well - really a nice image and nothing to change from my perspective. Lovely shot.
Hi Steven,
Excellent colours, nice low POV too. Have heard quite a fair bit about this pier, looks like a good place to take photos. The shallow DOF works well.
TFS,
Scott.
Cool shot, nice lead-in with the railing. I like the generous use of negative space to draw attention to your subjects.
