An image taken on my tour to New Zealand in 2005 from the Nelson Lakes area at the northern end of the south island.

I camped at a DOC campsite near to this jetty at Kerr Bay, Lake Rotoiti, just outside the very small town of St. Arnuad.

The place will always stick in my mind, not only for the majesty of the place, but for the over zealous patrol officer who stuck me with a $140 speeding ticket, even though I was the only vehicle on a very straight, clear, clean road!! I suppose they have to make a living!

Lake Rotoiti, Nelson

The South Island's Lake Rotoiti lies within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park. It is fed by the Travers River. The greatest depth is 82 metres and it is surrounded by beech forest. Saint Arnaud is a small community at the northern end of the lake. The water from the lake exits into the Buller River.

Tramping tracks circle the lake and a water taxi travels the length of the lake to ferry trampers to and from the tracks at the head of the lake. The lake is also a popular place for waterskiing and is adjacent to Mt Robert, which hosted a small club-owned skifield, until it was removed by New_Zealand_Department_of_Conservation in 2005
The lake has introduced trout which attract recreational fishermen. Source: Wikipedia.

Very well composed, the eyes are lead into a clear defined perspective convergence point. The reflection in the water is beautiful. But looking at the sky, to my taste the sharpening was just a little bit overdone. Imho. sharprning just the portion of the picture containing the ramp would have been better.

Hola John, Me gustan muchos tus paisajes, son excelentes y a los que vivimos cerca del mar, el agua es algo mágico... bella compo y genial vista, saludos

Excellent work John,
Brilliant placement of the jetty to efficiently lead the eye into the rest of the photo.

Well done.
Best regards, Daniel

Hi John
Composition straight out of a textbook. Fine use of rule-of-thirds for the placement of a perfectly-level horizon, perfect lining-up of the jetty with the lower-right corner of the shot; metering excellent too.
Fantastic work

Hi John

A spectacular shot. I love the Nelson Lakes district. I spent a few days in this area in Winter 2005 in a camper van. It had great bird life and snowy scenery.

Nice landscape with strongly accentuated perspective. Fine colours and a bit too much noise in the sky.
Regards Darko

Hi John,

Beautiful landscape shot! Your placement of the wooden wharf makes the composition excellent. TFS

Wonderful view, great colours and I love the leading line of the jetty. Border is a little strong and could possibly do with breaking up using an accent colour, but thats just a personal choice. Great stuff

This is really nice John! I love how the pier takes your eyes back into the photo! Nice colors!
