~ Boulder Bank Lighthouse ~

For this composition I decided to use the rule of thirds and divided one of my photos into two-thirds and one third segments after converting to B&W.

The Boulder Bank lighthouse is the second permanent lighthouse to be built in New Zealand and when decommissioned in 1982 was the longest operating lighthouse in New Zealand. The lighthouse stands 18.3 metres tall and has an impressive octagonal cast iron tower.

Tourists may take boat trips out to the lighthouse; a well worthwhile excursion by all accounts.

Thanks for viewing.

Unusual style and I like it! Great idea - a sort of triptych but not quite :)

Nice use of B&W for this scene too.

David

Hi Martyn,
'Special' use of the rule of thirds, but I like your creativity with this composition. It works well for this scene, the black and white tones are beautiful, sharpness in good on the subject. Original posting, TFS!
Best regards,
Kristof

Hi MF Martyn,
A fine configurastion of this Boulder Bank lighthouse from different POV with wonderful compositions.
TFS and cheers,
Bayram

This is a really inventive and innovative presentation technique - I like it. Even the bevelled edges to each portion of the shot, which I was dubious about at first glance, seem to fit with it.

Would be interested to see the same treatment on a white frame (with fine black edges around each photo, or drop-shadows.)

Very creative presentation, I love photos of Lighthouses and I must visit there. TFS

Hi Martyn
Excellent framing here to split the lighthouse from the rest of the landscape. The black and white works well while the image is crisp and sharp.
Well done
Jim

Bonjour Martyn,

This is very eye-catching! Nor the composition is fine but the frame is so graphic.
I may have been different if the boat was to be in the left frame...
It is much better this way, the two subjects together.
Looking at the thumbnail, I thought first that you took it from a window...
The different lines of the water and in the background the montains (or are these clouds?) give a nice depth of field to your composition.

Damien.

Nice idea to split your shot into two.
The B/W composition works very well and puts a good deal of strength to the lighthouse.
