[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Polikarpov I-153 Chaika bi-plane was restored from numerous wrecks by the Wanaka Air Museum.
It, and some others are restored to fully flying status.
Built in 1938, it is powered by a 1,00hp M-62 radial engine giving it a top speed of 275mph.
It was the first bi-plane to have a retracting undercarriage.

I'd like to thank Tracey for keeping the themes going, and Jahanzeib for taking over.
Well done guys.

Nice shot. The light and shadow are great here, and the sharp texture of the propeller and engine intakes behind it. Such a tiny propeller for such a big engine ... but there was something fantastic about those late '30s designs, a real sense of trying to capture the feeling of the future.

I thought this might be taken at Westmere!! MOTAT.
But it's a straight photo Pete - nearly as boring as the screwdrivers!!

Nice image for the theme. You captured a beautifull light that gives volume and a 3D feeling to your image. Exposure ad focus are excellent. Subject is well choosen. A nice post, TFS.

Hi Peter,

I love the lighting and moodiness of this, the splashes of red and yellow on the prop are really strikeing.

Cheers
Tom

Hi Peter,
Missed this image and I shouldn't :-) The light makes this image wonderful! Perfect how the polikarpov engine and propellor stands out from the dark into the light! Great avaition image Peter.
