The movie trilogy "The Lord of the Rings". was shot in New Zealand on both the north and south islands.
In the first movie"The Fellowship of the Ring", Frodo is being pursued by the Nazgul a dark force of horsemen.Arwen carries Frodo on her horse into a shallow river. She turns and defies the pursuers with the cry "If you want him.Come and claim him".
This scene was shot on the Arrow River at Arrowtown some 20 minutes drive from Queenstown in the South Island in the Arrow River.
This photo depicts the actual site of that scene and the path that the riders came down in pursuit of Arwen and Frodo can be clearly seen on the left of the photo.
Seconds after her challenge the riders are swept away. This latter scene was filmed at another location on the Shotover River.
The photo was framed and resized for TL but is otherwise untouched. Enjoy |

One of the most impressive scenes of the trilogy, that is... the way the water turns into horses is a stunning piece of FX. A pity it wasn't a sunny day, Robert. IMO the shot could do with more luminance and saturation. Ah well, we can't have it all - all of the time ;o).
TFS and thanks for the note...
Hello again Robert my friend. Another impressive piece of NZ scenery. As Frank said pity about the lack of sun. Excellent POV, soft natural colourings and well presented. Good notes for someone like me who has not seen any of the trilogy in their entirity. TFS,
David
