Woodland Walk / AKA Bush Walk in NZ

Another step and we'd have fallen over this precipice. . .

My husband and I were driving from Kaikoura to Hamner Springs when we crossed over the 135 year old Waiau Ferry Bridge over the Waiau River and we decided to take a walk in the woodland – called BUSH in New Zealand.

This is the Waiau River, and as you can see it is quite dry. What a view from the top, and we were so pleased we stopped.

At this bridge there is a Thrillseeker’s Adventure Centre. The centre is the departure point for bungy jumping,
white-water rafting
and jet boating trips
.
The raft trips use self-bailing inflatables, which carry from 2 to 12 people and last 2½ hours.
The jet boat trip runs up to 30 km through narrow gorges and braided shallows with spectacular scenery.

We wanted to get to see this spectacular scenery and we weren’t disappointed.

They advertise this Centre as a unique one-stop adrenalin-pumping centre, which offers bungy, jet boating and rafting adventures from the same base. No we didn’t take a ride!!

. . . . . . . . . . .

A few weeks back I posted this photo of the Bridesmaid Clown.

Well tomorrow we’re off to the wedding, being held in Ohakune on Saturday - about 5 hours drive south of here.

Ohakune, in the Ruapehu District, is the town at the southern gateway to the Tongariro National Park World Heritage Site, at the foot of Mt Ruapehu.

It is known as the aprés ski capital of the North Island, the Carrot Capital of New Zealand, a forestry centre, a farming centre, and home to around 1400 people.

We’ll be away over the weekend, and we may even get to see some snow on the Turoa Ski Area on Mt Ruapehu – I hope so.

Have a good weekend and I’ll see you next week.

Hello Janice! Wonderful POV. Good perspective. Amazing landscape. Nice lightness, very nice colors. Good capture. Original shot. Good luck!

Very beautiful! The braided river, the willows, the distant hills - this is such familiar scenery to me, I love it!

Hi Janice,

This is a great scene, so typical of the wonderful scenery you have in New Zealand. Wonderful POV and great depth, love the use of the river as a lead line.

Hope you enjoy the wedding.......Apres Ski capital of NZ eh! You will have to take it steady.....well maybe not!!

My Italy trip is with the Otley Zebras (U13's) Rugby tour to Benevento, near Naples, so that should be fairly wet too :)

TFS, and have a couple of Tui's for me,

John

oh Janice,

regards, terry

Hello Janice,

As you say, what a view!
I just love how you have framed it with the natural vegetation. It really feels as if we are peeping out from the trees and the shadows to enjoy the sun and the light!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Fantastic Janice! Well composed, POV and great clarity.TFS. Love this view. Cheers, Pat.

This is the kind of photos I like most; the ones in which I can travel around. As this one that forces our eyes move up and down and back to up, and then to one side to the other. Excellent composition with beautiful colors. TFS

Called bush on the mainland too Janice but down here tehy don't use that term, why I don't know. A lovely view from up there and well captured. Good natural colours and nicely semi framed by teh trees. TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Tasmanian Woodland Walks’. That one of McCubbins you mentioned was called 'Pioneers'. Another of my favourite Australian masters is Hans Heysen.

Wow Janice that all sounds great: BBumgee jumping, rafting and jet boats1 :-)
Great panorama, the greens and greys , the overhanging tree branch it's all almost surrealistic. Perfect camera handling my dear, I like the clear light in this picture.
Hans

Some stunning photo and view.
