…………The Key (see Yesterdays posting) opens the door to:… The old Dairy Flat Post Office, built from Native New Zealand timbers, Kauri, and rimu, and built by George Funke who emigrated to New Zealand in 1872 from England.

George Farmed in the Far North of the North Island, before settling in Dairy Flat a small settlement north of Auckland in 1908 where he built the Post Office to give one of his daughters full time work.

Eventually the Post Office became the General Store…..

And here it stands today in the Silverdale Historic village….set up as a General store…

There is a church in the Silverdale Historic village, and people get married there, and photos are often taken with this old Post Office in the background..

Janice and I had fun taking photos in and around the Silverdale Historic Village on Wednesday.

Please see 2 other views …in the WORKSHOP….

Thanks for stopping by…and taking a peek into my part of the world…

Happy Easter
Dawn.

Hi Dawn
I love this cute little picture, everything is so nice and tidy and very green, the composition and sharpness is terrific.
Thanks for sharing this little beauty

Hello Dawn,
A very pleasant capture... A cozy little house in the middle of this very well kept park..!
A nice composition, where I like the way you include the paved walkway...
Great colours and good details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Dawn
Very beautiful place.
Good composition.
Well done.
Aloys

I guessed this is where the key fitted - do I get the $100 prize now?
Good composition Dawn. I like the angle you have taken this from and the dovecote looks interesting too. The colours are good too.
It is such a tiny place and quite amazing that they could use it as a store for the groceries as well as a post office.
Well done.
Janice

Hi dawn,
Awesome shot with great colors and sharpness. BTW, what a lovely place, TFS.
Peace,
Mohammad

Hello Dawn.

Some of N/z shots are so like a quaint corner of england. Just love the rustic look and the eye pleasing windy path, abig smile.

Hi Dawn,

Well I never would have picked the key was for this. What a wonderful bit of NZ history preserved at Silverdale Historic Village. Andrea and I (me more so) have been meaning to call in there and have a look, in fact we were parked outside there the other day but the weather looked a bit dodgy so gave it a miss. Great photo Dawn, I like your composition. Well done.

And a Happy Easter to you and yours Dawn. What a delightful little building. I think we Kiwi's and Tasmanians are blessed with having so much of our heritage literally on our doorsteps. I have taken to wandering some of the back streets of the city and it is surprising what you can find. Well composed, good colours and a great find. TFS and hugsss,
David
