Motorway Lights

This is another of the night shots I took on the 'field trip' with our camera club. The 'set subject' for competition night in October is 'Nightscape', so all who wanted to attend a nighttime shoot met at Westhaven Marina in Auckland City.

This photo is taken on a bridge over the Auckland Harbour Bridge motorway. Auckland CBD is ahead, with the Sky City Tower standing out like a sore thumb and Westhaven Marina is on the left.

From this photo I have learnt to keep the exposure number longer next time so I don't get so many stop and start lights from the cars. This was another good thing I learnt that night, so I'm happy!

Enjoy!

Hi Janice,
This is another beautiful night shot. I like how you have capture these lines of car light that are balance with the light of the tower. Excellent composition.
Greetings
Luc

wonderful light, perfect effect!

Hi Janice,
I love the effect of the slow shutter speed at a city night scene. The lights by the cars creat such a great effect. You've found yourself a wonderful spot with plenty of cars to pass within 5 seconds. I love the contrast in colors between the red tail lights and the blue tower.
TFS,
Niek

love it.
well done.
cheers,
Brad.

Beautiful night scene Janice. Look fantastic, funny how the light from cars can bee. I will try a shot one day like yours, I have a motorway 2km from here LoL..

Hi Janice...

Great car lines.... its beautiful! I like the composition and the stars effect... :D Well done my friend... :D

Cheers,

I was going to ask how you got that photo, I love the pov, but I see you already say, great idea going on a trip like that.

You also seem to have very little camera shake, did you use something to hold you steady or just no wind ?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Janice,

Another beautiful night photo! I really like this type of photography! Keeping the shutter open a little longer would have made this perfect! :)

Hello Janice,
Very beautiful photograph!
I like the opposition red/white : those which go downtown and those which return from there. The blue of the tower is superb and balances the composition. Very good!

I do love the starry effect on the lights, Janice. This reminds me that it is something I should try myself, as I haven't done that ever...
I think there's nothing wrong with your exposure time. Maybe another sec or so, but too long an exposure might cause other side-effects.
Anyway, TFS.

Janice..I love this picture!!
I am reallykeen to learn anything about taking better pcitures at night, so your notes were most helpful too..thank you!

Hi Jancie... A great shot, you did very well here...nicely composed with the sky tower showing, and I love the star shaped lights.

Well done my friend.

Hello Janice,
I love night visions and this is very nice.
Good POV. I like the lenght of cars light and the tall blue tower.
Cheers

Very nice photo, check out this URL it is a link to a photo that is very similar to yours but the lines are alot longer and look alot more efficitve, maybe trying a longer exposure time maybe like 15 seconds to get that longer lighting effect. The photo in the link was taken from a Canon EOS 400D. Very nice job though :)
