Doing some work on the low F stops...with a narrow DOF... Some cropping ...and a lovely day to be checking out the garden ,camera in hand:-)
The cats I saw were real though steve...:-)

You are welcome to view the 2 other efforts (hopefully sharper!) at this particular picture, I have posted as workshops. Thanks..and thank you for all the helpful feedback..great! Meagan

Hi Meagan, beautiful irises. I love these colours. They could be sharper, so keep practicing. The blurred BG is good, but where was your focus? Have you set it on the centre spot or multi spot? TFS

Nice try Meagan..as Janice said.. must be sharper, and need some focus here.. pay attention to composition too.. I would have clonned out the left hand lower flower, bit distracting..Great colour..

Cheers Dawn

I like the colors. It's beautiful. A little bit sharper is good. :D

Beautiful photo.
Just needs a little more sharpness.
Unless you wanted to have the softness displayed as is?
TFS.

Hello Meagan,
Great compostion and the potential for a lovely shot. Great experiment, but you need to tell us more about what you were doing and what you were trying to achieve ;-)

Cheers

Steve

Tech notes: (surely less than 5c worth ;-), DOF is not working here for you. And it is mostly as everyone else has already pointed out, the sharpness of the front iris. Ok, but how? Well I know you don't like to hear it but you have a few options as always:
* Use a tripod - from the focal length, I am guessing you were using the long lens is that correct. - camera shake
* Use the other lens - less prone to shake
* Drop the ISO further more sharpness

Thinking about the "sharpness" more I figure the only way that you would have got this photo "not sharp" would have been the shake or, or you were using manual focus. You see nothing is really in focus in the picture and this I guess for me is the most important issue.

Hi Meagan
Nice flower shot. Great colours, BG, light and POV.
Well done

Hi Meagan...the workshop versions are much sharper than this one but the experiment was worth it. Not having a hulking great camera and lens I can't comment on camera shake. I know a couple of people on TL who have the larger camera and don't use a tripod for this sort of work. I can't really comment about F stops either having only just started paying around with the settings on my camera. Most, if not all of my flower photos are taken minus the tripod. I always use auto settings so the f stops are usually in the 3.2-4 range and ISO between 67 and 100. I like the soft look anyway, there are many flowers portrayed on the site which are far softer. TFS,
David
