Beauty Among the Graves

On Saturday I noticed many rose bushes covering some graves at the Symonds Street Cemetery in Auckland. But this lone stem was the only one I saw in flower.

It is specially noted that these old roses growing here in the cemetery owe a lot to the Heritage Roses movement.

Some of the roses growing in the Grafton Bridge part of the cemetery in particular are important references in Nancy Steen's book, 'The Charm of Old roses'. And last year the Heritage Society moved some roses from the Nancy Steen gardens to the cemetery.

I do want to come back here again when the roses are out in flower. So, next summer I must come back and see the beautiful roses growing over the graves.

Lovely capture Janice, so nice to see some beauty amongst so much destruction.
Well seen,
Peter.

Hi Janice,
This rose looks great especially with the interesting backdrop. The POV is fabulous with the rusty wrought iron fence which no doubt surrounds the grave. A very nice image.
Don't forget to go back in Summer.
Cheers,
Debbie

Very well spotted Janice. The roses look good against the old railings... the old and the new! Nice to see the one rosehip there too.

Hi Janice. Excellent work. Lovely DOF and that tiny flower stands out well against the greys and greens. TFS,
David
