Well, your Dad is a great subject for a character portrait and to my knowledge this area is new for you. The image is very simple but nice, with a relaxed pose. On the technical side, it almost seems that the neck is in sharp focus while the eyes not quite. But this is nitpicking.

A great portrait!

lighting, exposure etc all good.
maybe tiny bit much space on right as white triangles bit distracting, but nice to see not plonked straght in middle.

Hi Rew,
Even if I understand what you want say when you write : "To the rest of the world, just another face", I don't agree with you! :)
This portrait talk much to me. The expression is totally attentive and in the same time his glance seems also turned in himself. Softness in his eyes points out the same that I always found in those of my father! The kindness of a father is universal. Your portrait cannot thus leave anybody indifferent.
Very well done! Bravo and thanks for sharing! Annie

This is a lovely, genuine shot of a character-filled face, Rew.
I love the fact that this is away from the studio, away from props, away from anything false. I think you know I prefer that style of portrait - this style of portrait. I think they capture the essence of the subject far more powerfully and accurately. This is a wonderful shot, Rew - I'm sure that well-lined face could tell a few tales!

Hi Rew,

Lighting, pose, expression...spot on.

An image to treasure for life my Friend.
The detail of his face is superb and the skin tone plus the white hair stands out from the BG. I'm a little bit destructed on the sofa fabric color and texture, but that is minor compare to the degree of its beauty.
Also, I like the alternative image in your workshop, it matches the facial character of your subject(father)
I'm happy for you meeting with your father, now I miss my father coz we only see like once a year.
Andy
Hello Rew,
beautifull portrait. Great details, I can see every paltry thing on his face. Great work!!
Igor
I like this one much more than most of your 'female' shots; compo - great, clarity, sharpness, contrast, brightness - everything just perfect, in addition thete is a very good eye contact (your father's eyes say: I am proud of you, Rew!)

Beautiful, sensitive protrait, Rew. The kind only a family member can take. I hope you don't mind, but I just wanted to see a bit more sharpness inthe eyes, so I tried workshopping it slightly. You're as good with natural stuff as you are with poses. Lovely work. Best, -Hugh

How precious this photos is Rew. You show your dad so naturally and he looks really happy for you to take his photo too.
Well done.
I love taking photos of my family - and they are so used to me doing it - it's great to have these memories to look at.
Good one!

Hi Rew,
I very much like this portrait of your dad. There is good chemistry between the subject and the photographer, seen in your dad's slightly presenting his left cheek. It means he is emoting from the right hemisphere of his brain, where we process sentimental "stuff". I learned this by reading "Math and the Mona Lisa", by Bulent Atalay. Unless there is a specific reason to keep the blanket on the seat behind him, I would suggest a different crop, which I'll submit to workshop.
All the best,
Karen
Good shot of your dad Rew. Good light and sharp, eps. with the kit lens. Well done. Sothy

Hi Rew,
I haven't been around TE and TL for a while, but now I'm back and you surprise me with this picture. There isn't much I can say about this, technically, and everything I could say has already been said by my predecessors. So the only thing I'm left with is to tell you why I clicked this picture first, instead of all your other (new) photos.
This portrait really stands out from your others, your father between all the beautiful women you have portrayed and shared with us. He looks like a man with many stories to tell. A man with a lot of life and love inside him, his eyes show some pride or joy (or both). No, it's more then just another face.
Somehow this photo of your father also reminds me a little of the portrait of my greatgrandfather, a painting (oil) I always used to stare at during familygatherings like Christmas. Think it must be the colours and the setting.
A very nice job Rew, as usual :)
Regards
Lieke

Tributes to your dad and a lovely photo.
very detailed and very good light.

Hello Rew,
Inevitably, I will repeat what others already said, but I think you achieved a strong portrait of great humanity.
In spite of its simplicity (apparently no studio work), it is very telling and in-depth. As if we knew some more about your father, about his life, just by seeing him looking at your lens.
Simple but very telling setting too: appropriate, brownish colours (expressing the wisdom of a certain age?) and nice details, such as the texture of the sofa.
Classic, but effective off-centered composition.
TFS & kind regards,
Erik

Beside being a very handsome and photogenic man, I must admit , you captured him very well here Rew!
Great souvenir of a memorable moment. I am sure he is pretty happy about it ....... and you !

This is a wondeful tribute photo.
I really like that the simplicity of the shot is so powerful. No immense set up, not costumed, not massively PPed, (no jewelery. lol), no merging of hair into the background, no imagination necessary...
Quite simply evidence that age does not diminish the splendour of humanity. Your father is a handsome man with a wisdom revealed in those gentle but piercing eyes.
I have seen many of your shots Rew. For me, this one is right up there!

hi rew :)
this is an amazing, telling photo of your dad :)
everything from the white balance to the tones is perfect, and trust me when i say that :)
the composition, well i know that its cropped but i just love the way its been cropped :) great job there :)
your dad reminds me of Clint Eastwood from 'million dollar baby' and the old version of Tom Hanks from 'the green mile' :)
his face allowes for us to contemplate and gives us a chance to think in a variety of ways about life :) the wrinkles clearly show his age, but more than that, they reveal all experience and wisdom your dad must have gained in all these years :)
i like images like these where one has more that one thing to say about it, photos which give their viewers a chance to think are what i call 'telling images' :) something very difficult to achieve :)
congratulations :) may Allah bless you and your family :)
thanks for sharing this one :)

A great portrait, Rew.
If this is only practice, I am curious about the result when you take "just another face" of the rest of your family.
By the look of his eyes and all expression in his face, this is a very nice and gentle man.
Well caught.
Groet,
Joop.
each face tells a story
some say no...others say yes
both have lifetimes of experiences to relate
some the same experience many times
others many experiences
wonderful shot and i am sure you got his true personality.

Excellent photo - irrespective of the relationship with the sitter. This just 'works' on every evel. Ths skin tones, contrast, sharpness...it is almost 3-D. There's a bit of noise in the background - but unobtrusive and it looks a bit like grain. A wonderful shot. Wish I still had mine to photoraph. Regards, Paul.
