This is Lake Rotoroa which lies within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park in the South Island. The lake is fed by the D'Urville and Sabine rivers. The greatest depth is 145 metres and the lake is completely surrounded by beech forest. Rotoroa is a small community at the base of the lake. The Gowan River flows out of the lake at this point, thus making the lake one of the sources of the Buller River system.

A track follows the northeast side of the lake and a water taxi travels the length of the lake to ferry trampers to and from the tracks at the head of the lake.

The lake is well known to recreational fishermen for its brown trout population.

Lake Rotoroa is the name of six separate lakes in New Zealand. This is not surprising, since the word 'rotoroa' is simply the Maori word for long lake.

Welcome to TL Renier :)

Not easy to get a good landscape in b/w as you may already knew. So this is good and great use of the jetty as a leading line. nit probably on top of the mountains. You have quite halos (glow) there :)

Yan

Excellent image, lovely B/W contrasts...and a fine perspective....

Hi Renier

A superb b&w image, with excellent sharpness, tonal range & contrast. Some slight haloes around the peaks. I like the linear perspective, added by the fg pier, at left. Tfs, & welcome to TL!

Hello Ren,
It's good to see you here. A warm welcome. There's a bunch of very good Filipino artists in here particularly Oggie and Xavier. They are also quite organized, they have their own TL Philippines webpage, and they regularly go out on photoshoots. This is a very attractive compo. Reminds me of your photo of the Hanging Bridge in Bohol. Superb details and contrast on the wooden plank. Best regards, Danilo

Hi Renier,

Hi Renier, welcome to TL, and I hope you will enjoy your time here.
I like what you hjave done here to make this a B&W image. Interesting POV too following the jetty out to the point in the distance.

I walked one of the tracks many years ago - what a beautiful place it is. There was a quaint little church too, with a view of the lake - if I remember rightly.

Thanks for sharing
Janice

Hi Renier,
Firstly, welcome to TrekLens, I'm sure you are going to enjoy it.
This is a super black and white, beautiful gradation of tones, and textures.
You don't mention your exposure details, this is the sort of image that can others can learn from.
My kind regards,
Pete.

Hi Kiwi! Amazing place, amazing scene. Wonderful pier, wonderful ship. Nice background. Original composition. Good capture.
Cheers!

Hi Renier,

As you know I find jetties and scenes like this very attractive.
I was wondering how this picture would look with a square crop, so I made you a WS.
Looks like a lovely place.

Els
Aha I see I cannot upload a WS, I was trying if filtering the image would make the halos disappear, but anyway that did not work out.

Well composed pix Renier. Superb toning of the mono. Very clear shot.
