Princess Aurora, AKA Sleeping Beauty

Yesterday I posted this image of a RED PANDA on TrekNature and seeing the panda asleep in the tree reminded me of these photos I took a few months ago. I’d forgotten all about them.

I was walking along Takapuna Beach watching the Windsurfer Championships and I saw this young lady asleep on this large Pohutukawa Tree, and naturally I had to stop and take a couple of photos of her while she was still asleep.

She was in a deep sleep – please note her camera on the branch beside her and she has her ipod attached to her ears too. I was quite intrigued with her pale white skin – quite unusual for New Zealanders.

I’m going to be away tomorrow until the end of next week. My husband and I are off to the South Island of New Zealand. We’re flying to Christchurch and hiring a car, travelling to Kaikoura, Hamner Springs, Lake Tekapo and Akaroa.

This time of year the autumn leaves should be out in force now – the colours are more vibrant down there then up here in Auckland – it is a lot colder down there. I shall be sorry to miss the end of the hot weather up here, but the holiday is just what I need right now.

So, all of you Trek Friends, enjoy your springtime and I’ll see you next week.

The name of the beautiful Sleeping Beauty is "Princess Aurora" (Latin for "dawn") – and Maori name for Dawn is "Awatea". . .

Hi Janice

Good choice of a horizontal format. She looks exhausted! Maybe you could tell what type of flowers I posted today? I'm clueless, & you really seem to know your flowers. Tfs!

Hello Janice,
I very much like the idea and the mood your photo conveys, but I think it would be stronger if you had cloned out the camera and tried a tighter crop, especially on the foreground and the right side (without, however, deleting entirely the wooden door and the soil). It would bring your "model" closer to the viewer.
Just my personal opinion, of course. Feel free to (dis)agree ;o).
Erik

Hi Janice,
First at all wish you a happy holliday and looking forward to your pictures from the south island...boy I can't wait see it myself :-)
Great posting of the sleeping beauty, indeed she's a beauty! The camera is a nice detail and tells something about the attitude of the Kiwi's: thrust! Well my beauty this is a spot on posting. Have a great time in the south!
Kia ora.

What an interesting shot, combined with your notes even more so. I can’t imagine falling asleep like this. I like the inclusion of the door and dark wall, and how well you have shown the tree. I like the camera sitting there, adds mood. A lovley capture. Enjoy your vacation.

Hi Janice!
Great portrait of a real princess! :)
I hope shes not angry with this... hehehhe
Congratulations!

This is exactly what I do when I get to the ocean. The sound of the waves puts me to sleep. A very nice picture. TFS

;)

nice idea!

Hi Janice, that tree looks ready made for the nap too. A liitle bright on her legs but the the colour of the limbs contrast nicely with the stone wall and the partial door. TFS,
David

Hello Janice

A lovely sharp capture here with good colour and detail. I can see someone sitting behind the log so maybe he/she was looking after her camera for her.

I hope you have a wonderful break my friend and look forward to seeing any new captures you return with

TFS kind regards Helen

She has good faith, leaving her camera 'unattended' whilst sleeping... and you had a good eye in seeing this, Janice... did you get a model release form for this capture, I wonder? LOL.
Nice work, seriously. A pity the door sort of breaks the continuity of the wall, if that makes sense... for I really like that kind of wall. Ok, I admit, I like beautiful women as well ;o)).
TFS.
Have a pleasant holiday and a safe trip!

Beautiful portrait. Single bed?

Hi Janice
To be so trusting to take a nap in public with her camera in open view! That must be nice!
The tree looks like it was made for her!
