This is another view from:

KUIRAU PARK, ROTORUA

Walking tracks lead to numerous areas of vigorous geothermal activity. Provided you stay on the cool side of the safety fences, visitors are generally quite safe. New eruptions do occur from time to time, so it pays to err on the side of caution. In 2001 mud and rocks the size of footballs were suddenly hurled 10 metres into the air as a new steam vent spontaneously announced its arrival. Two years later, similar eruptions provided a real bonus for delighted visitors.

In early Maori times this small lake in the park was much cooler and was known as Taokahu. Legend tells us that a beautiful young woman named Kuiarau was bathing in the waters when a taniwha (legendary creature) dragged her to his lair below the lake. The gods above were angered and made the lake boil so the Taniwha would be destroyed forever. From that time on, the bubbling lake and the steaming land around it have been known by the name of the lost woman, although the spelling has changed a little.

A very impressive place I would recommand to anyone visiting New Zealand!

Thanks for looking.

Hi LuDivine,

Only in New Zealand eh! Great shot, along with a lovely note, almost brings tears to my eyes! (I remember the sulphur smell!!!)

Love the way the sky seems to mirror the lake. Great image.

Rotorua was my first stop after Auckland on the 2005 Lions Tour, and what a place. Great scenery, great people, we were really looked after here, and I will always remember Bob in the Trek and Field shop, who supplied me with all the maps I needed for my 6 week tour to NZ.

TFS,

John

Hello LuDivine
What strykes my attention is the competition of fumes to the beauty of clouds to compose a mysterious mood!
Wonderful tableau!
Take care.
Robert

Spectacular view on one part of the beautiful New Zealand. And, it is really an impressive shot, capturing very good details of the steam. Very nice photo, LuDivine.

A beautiful spot, and there are so many of them in Rotovegas.

I can't help thinking, I wish it was a little brighter - it seems underlit, to me. But overall an eyecatching capture!
