Foggy Morning

For David / Refugee

My first foggy morning for many years. . .

On the way back from the wedding last week we spent a night at the west coast, beach town of Raglan in the Waikato.

The township of Raglan is on the Whaingaroa Harbour (also known as Raglan Harbour) on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island.

The harbour runs 12km inland from the entrance, for the most part is less than 2km wide, and is the northernmost of three large inlets in the Waikato coast.

Raglan is best known for its amazing surf. Eight kilometres from the Raglan township is a series of excellent surf breaks including Indicators, Whale Bay, and Manu Bay. Manu Bay was featured in the 1966 movie The Endless Summer.

Raglan is known throughout the international surfing community for its amazing left-hand break.

There was a thick fog in the morning so I immediately thought of David Gumprich and his foggy scenes so I took off with my camera to shoot a few.

Here the fog has lifted off the water and the sun was just rising over the hills. I like how it is hitting the hillside on the other side of the harbour.

That's what you get from being on TL - when you see a certain scene, it reminds you immediately of some or other fellow member.

Janice this made indeed a beautiful picture - I would not mind being the one travelling in that campervan at the right - or do you call it an RV?

A beautiful view, Janice. The sun was in the right angle for this. I also love the wider format you used. David will be glad with this one, I guess ;o)

Another really gorgeous scene!! I love the fog in the background and the lighting in the foreground. TFS

Hi Janice
Very nicely composed the picture, splendid palette of colours and the good the sharpness. Well well-chosen frame box. I greet Mark

Lovely capture of light sneaking under the clouds here Janice. Beautiful colours and very nice composition, good placement of shoreline - a lovely shot.

Hi Janice,
Beautiful photo nice atmosfera.

Hi Janice

This is a beautiful. Stunning colours and detail. Gives a nice relaxing mood and calm. I have been to Raglan a few times and consider this part of NZ so beautiful.

Within our country it is well known for its place on the NZ surfing circuit (in fact I believe it is on the world circuit) but, as you cite, it has so much more to offer the discerning eye. Indeed, worthy of being a film set for 'The Endless Summer'.

TFS this awesome photo Janice. A beautiful photo of a beautiful location.

Regards, Martyn

It just perfect Janice !

Iso,

Lovely Janice and thank you, that beautiful golden light that NZ and Tasmania experiences at this time of the year. As Frank has already mentioned, the wider format realy does suit this scene. Good colour and that burst of light highlighting the trees nicely. TFS,
David

Fog is always good for mood. The light hitting some of the MG trees is even better than it all being lit up. The still water adds future mood. TFS. K2
