Mt Cook, Mackenzie Country

That is Mt Cook, also known in Maori as Aoraki
, the highest snow capped mountain in the distance.

Mackenzie Country is a high inland basin beneath the Southern Alps and Mount Cook, south west of Christchurch.

At 3,754 metres Mount Cook / Aoraki is New Zealand's highest mountain. It towers above massive snow-clad peaks that make up Mount Cook National Park.

Mt Cook National Park covers the central and highest area of the Southern Alps, east of the main divide. Created in 1953, it stretches 65 km (40 miles) along the main divide for an area of 70,700 hectares (176,750 acres).

The lake is Lake Pukaki, with wonderfully turquoise coloured water. The road to Mt Cook runs alongside this wonderful lake and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Mount Cook village.

Last time we visited Mt Cook (last century) it was overcast and wet and we never got a glimpse of any of this scenery. So you can imagine how thrilled we were this time to see this view.

Hi Janice,

I can see clearly the mountain . . and you did great composing it . .
I heard many beautiful things about NZ . . I should go there one day . .
Lovely country . .

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Hello Janice,

I just love to see the scenery from New Zealand. It absolutely stunning! I love how the blue of the sea has pervaded the mist, the mountains and merged with the sky! The composition is good and the sweeping curve of the lake shore guides the eyes around the shot.

If I have one suggestion, it would be to clone out the small twig in the f/g which grabs some of the attention of the bush ... which would have made a great focal point.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Janice,
This landscape delights my eyes! A perfect and inspirant place!
I like the great sense of space which carry us beyond the mountains towards the infinite horizon.
I agree with Bev about the small twig in the foreground. I propose you a workshop just for see the difference!
Bravo and thanks for this beauty! Annie

The sky could be a bit more exiting Janice, but for the rest it s all superbe, nice colors and softness.
If you have perfect scenery and sky, that happens only very rarely......thats why making landscape photos is very exiting and a matter of good luck....

Nice to see this taken from a different angle. You have really captured the peacefullness.

Beautiful Janice!! The clarity and colour of this Southern splendor are superb and it is well composed. I love the blues-you can just feel the chill in the air! You certainly got the best of the weather! TFS. Cheers, Pat.

I have but one nit-pick, Janice... why not crop off a substantial bit of the sky, and present it in a panoramic format?
I really like colours and contrast in this landscape shot. Well done, kiwi girl ;o))

Absolutely beautiful view - and beautifully captured. Composition here is truly artistic, fantastic use of that blue sky to draw attention down to your subject. Placement of the tree is perfect.
Lovely shot!
