It looks like it was Dad’s Day at the Beach

This is Mairangi Bay Beach beach, a kilometre from where I live. When the tide is out we can walk along under the cliffs from beach to beach in the East Coast Bays. . . I walked to Mairangi a couple of times last Saturday to meet up friends in the Mairangi Bay shopping centre for a coffee.

The day was quite warm and sunny (late autumn), and there were a lot of people on the beach too. And most of them seemed to be dads and their children.

There were also lots of kayaks on the water too, as Mairangi Bay is home to the Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. People launch small dinghies and jet skis from the beach. And I saw a few people swimming too. You can see a head out there on the right.

BBbbrrrr - too cold for me in the water now.

You can tell by the colours that it isn't summer - they seem to look paler with the lower sun in the sky this time of the year.

The islands in the distance are Motutapu and Rangitoto, and the water is part of the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park.

Rangitoto Island
Rangitoto, the largest and youngest of Auckland’s 49 volcanoes. It emerged from the sea around 600 years ago in a series of fiery volcanic explosions. Further eruptions sent red-hot lava flows down the sides of the volcano forming the black basaltic rock that now makes up much of the island. Scientists do not expect the island to erupt again. . . We hope not.

Motutapu Island
Motutapu Island (or simply Motutapu) is located in the Hauraki Gulf to the northeast of the city of Auckland, New Zealand. Its full name, rarely used, is Te Motutapu a Taikehu, "The sacred island of Taikehu", Taikehu having been a tohunga (tribal priest) of the Tainui iwi / Tainui tribe of Maori People.

I thought you might like to see a little bit of what life is like in autumn in the Bays, as it is known here in the East Coast Bays of Auckland.

Next time I go I must take my 70-300 lens.

Hi Janice

A relaxing day out, for the hard working breadwinner. Good colour, sharpness & composition. Tfs!

Hi Janice
If I am ever up in the North Island I will have to visit this beach, it looks lovely.
I really does look like a Dads day with the kids!
One thing I noticed though was the Border Collie looks to be the only one that noticed you taking a photo, as all the Dads and kids were busy!
Great POV

Tracey

Hi Janice,

Very beautiful "daily life" capture, I like very much the scene, intreresting observation, daddys and kids on the beach, also the BG looks great. TFS
Best regards,
Sorina

Hi Janice,
The peaceful mood in this picture is perfect captured. Like all those different persons in this nice view, very relaxing. The distance is a tad hazy though, nevertheless I would like to capture this scene myself; wonderful land- and seascape. Great posting my dear!
Kia ora

Hi Janice
A very pleasant photograph. However for me it falls between two types of image. It is either a Landscape/ Seascape or it is a shot of Dads and Kids having fun on the beach. It is a pity some of the kids are hidden behind the buggy or one of the Dads. It is good that all three 'Dads' are interested in what the kids are doing. I still like the image and your notes have been interesting.
Regards
Mike
