Plumbago
Plumbago auriculata

Common names:
Cape Leadwort, Plumbago (English)
Blousyselbos (Afrikaans)
Umabophe (Xhosa/ Zulu)
Umasheleshele (Zulu)

This beauty is the Plumbago flower. I just love the colour of these Baby Blue flowers.

The genus Plumbago comprises 10 species from the warmer parts of the world. There are 5 species in South Africa.

The flowers vary in colour, from baby blue, to white at one extreme and much darker blue than any other. Visit your nursery to find different cultivars with different flower colours. Plumbago auriculata is a terrific plant to grow. It’s tolerant and you can have fun doing different things with it in the garden.

So if baby blue is your colour, Plumbago auriculata has got to be your choice of plant.

It's called Plumbago because many species in the genus have flowers that are lead coloured, and plumbum, in Latin, means lead.

It is a shrub that grows very easily, with no particular care needs, with rich foliage and long lasting flowers. In the past few years new varieties have been introduced, with white, pink and dark blue flowers.

Hi Janice....we called that Andalucia blue.

To answer your question about the midnight bamboo, yes, that is my passion.. to create the unseen and enhance the common....

Someday, in the will of God...I will do that in your land....I have many relatives in NZ.
