Summer Sport on the Beaches of the East Coast Bays

East Coast Bays is the collective name for a series of small suburbs of North Shore, in the Auckland metropolitan area of New Zealand which line the northeast coast of the city along the shore of the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Channel.

The suburbs, from north to south, include
Long Bay
Torbay
Browns Bay
Rothesay Bay
Murrays Bay – where I live
Mairangi Bay
Campbells Bay
Castor Bay

They stretch for nine kilometres from Castor Bay, Milford, at the northern end of Lake Pupuke to Toroa Point, at the northern limit of the Auckland urban area.

You can see the tree-covered volcanic island of Rangitoto in the distance. It is the largest and youngest of Auckland’s volcanoes, and emerged from the sea around 600 years ago in a series of fiery volcanic explosions.

Spending time at the beach is part of our 'way of life' when you live in the Bays of North Shore. Our Summers are filled up with swimming, yachting, fishing, boating, walking, playing, picnicing, etc.

This brings back memories.
I used to skimboard on the beach at Kariotahi,near Waiuku,when I lived in Auckland ... except mine was a big round board.
A lovely clear capture.

Yes, I could immigrate to NZ today. NZ was the perfect place (well at least as a visitor). The fun action, crisp details, and general atmosphere are all well captured in this snap.

Very good capture of an action shot, you can feel the rush and the balance here, it's that sharp, almost 3 dimensional the subject just stands out so well from the background.

Fine summer picture, joy at the beach in about half a year you can make picture of the Baron doing this :-)

Judging from the knee bandage, not a very "innocent" sport either, Janice ;o). Nice capture, but his "at ease" pose makes the picture lack some dynamics, imo his pose is a wee bit static. (Says the man that has never ever stood upon a surfing board himself LOL).
