Foxglove
Digitalis

I love these flowers. They always look so pretty with their colourful flowers. And so regal too as they stand so tall, swaying in the wind. The bees love them too.

The common foxglove Digitalis pupurea, grows 4 to 6 feet tall and has rosy purple or white flowers. It is the only British native and is the biggest and best.

It has soft, felt-like leaves and a strong stem that can carry hundreds of tubular flowers. The buds are white; the flowers a rich, rosy purple with lovely speckles and clusters of short hairs in the throat.

Flowers in shades of white, yellow, pink, rose, red, lavender and purple grow on spikes that vary in height depending on the variety.

The Latin name digitalis comes from the Latin word digitalis which means finger. This is because the blossoms fit the human finger almost perfectly.

But the flowers and leaves are highly toxic, and this plant should not be grown in areas frequented by children.

Foxglove is grown commercially as a source of the heart drugs digoxin and digitoxin.

I have never seen such a large foxglove as this one before. It was quite massive, and considering it's size, I was surprised to see it standing up so straight and strongly.

Hello Janice. I've never seen this flower before and thanks for sharing this. Excellent perspective in wonderful colors and texture. Well exposed and very well done. Best regards. Jusni

AA WOWWW, Fantastic looking 'vingerhoedskruid' (very Poison), but dont no what is poison on it, you know, Janice ?
We got the same in our garden, higher as mentioned anywere (over 7 feet, 180 cm) but not as wide as yours, only 4 on the row. Have you noticed, that no flower has the same 'dotts'?
Our one had over 120 blooms, before the lower ones starts falling off. Have some pictures of it, like to upload one on your ws, ok?

Excellent detail throughout Janice. Good colour and light, nice crop and suitably framed. Another I don't see many of here, TFS,

Superb tight composition! Your foxgloves seem to have far more blossoms per stem than ours do though!
Great colours and details

hello Janice,
I love these flowers and I love this one. It is just perfect. The close crop is fandabbydozy ( that's an expression made famous here by a Scottish comedian)/I love the detail of the stippling in each bell. Top clas.

Bev
